your set up perfectly fine.
You cant get TRUEHD through ps3 cause it cant decode it... as far as i know.

I do have the same receiver as you though.

And im also getting Linear PCM no matter what.

Also, every time i try to do DD5.1 the thing shuts itself off . dunno why...

EDIT: I read the post over.

When setting the audio up, anything should work (again, as far as i know). I'd pick PCM... just because thats what the receiver seems to think its decoding.
It will automatically convert the DTS signal to PCM anyway, so its not like it matters.
Dont take anything from me as official. Im like you. just got the thing.

Sorry im not useful at all.

Ask krakinheadz. He knows everything...

The PS3 does decode TrueHD, it does not decode DTSHD-MA... yet...

edit: I guess technically it transcodes Dolby TrueHD to PCM and then sends to the receiver.

On the PS3 under BD/DVD settings
>BD/DVD Audio Output Format (HDMI) set to Linear PCM

Sound Settings>Audio Output Settings>
Choose HDMI, automatic (i chose manual and check marked everything)

Display Settings>RGB Full Range (HDMI)
I have set to full but your eyes will have to tell you what works best on your setup

It's fairly straight forward.. enjoy the world of lossless audio!!!

Ok, this has been a major topic lately. The problem with the ps3 is that it does not output via bitstream. So, what happens is it internally decodes dolby truehd and sends it to the receiver via pcm. In all reality, they sound the same. This way you are getting uncompressed sound and if the 605 has a decent processor, it can do its own processing and in my personal experience, it sounds better. So your 605 should say multi channel or something like that.

Hope this helps.

ok when i went to manual it and clicked everything the ps3 asked me if i was sure i wanted these settings because they could damage my speakers, whats that about. Also i only just bought my 6th and 7th speakers but now i realize they arnt going to work the majority of the time because most lossless movies are 5.1, i can still returen them, does anyone think that would be a good idea

To piggyback on these, and probably contribute to your confusion the PS3 can decode TrueHD. What it CAN'T do is send an unencoded signal via bitstream to your receiver. Basically, to explain this in "noob terms" the difference is this:

With the PS3 set to bitstream, what that's doing is taking a raw signal and sending it to the receiver and basically saying "Here, here's this information, figure out what it means and play it through the speakers." The PS3 can't do this with TrueHD.

With the PS3 set to Linear PCM, which you want when playing TrueHD, the PS3 "figures out" the signal and sends it to the receiver and basically says, "Here's what to play, just amplify it and play it through the speakers."

When there's a choice, I always pick PCM. It's a totally uncompressed audio signal. While TrueHD is lossless, it's not uncompressed. Theoretically they should sound the same though.

What I, and many PS3 users, do is set the PS3 to bitstream for everything EXCEPT TrueHD tracks and switch it to LPCM for TrueHD. This way the receiver handles all your decoding for DD, DTS, etc., which is what you paid big bucks for the receiver to do.
