so i ask you, what is a decent price range for good speakers?

btw, i am looking at the onkyo 705 or marantzsr4002 for my receiver
doesn't leave much room ($$$)for speakers...

spend money on the 605 or 705
Center Speaker
Front Speakers

then add as money is avail
Sub
Rear and Surround speakers

Min $2k for a 7.1

center: $300-400+
Sub: $300-600+
Fronts: $500-$800+
Backs: $500-800+
surround speakers: $500-800+

Best to get something 'nice' 1 time, that will last 15-20 years, then buying something 'OK' & replacing it in 2 years.

This is my ideal order of purchase..

- 2 front speakers (mains)
- Sub woofer is next..
- Surround speakers
- then finally center .. (you can always do phantom center with ur mains)

About 60% of all sound comes from the center speaker, so if just have fronts, a Sub & No center your Not going to here any dialog, just noise.

SVS 7.0 Speaker Set for $799

You need to buy the sub separately but it depends on your room layout .. cheapest powered sub they have is $429 (PB10-NSD)

Goodluck!

I see that you live in Toronto, so I don't know if you have Best Buy there, but ...
BB runs the $500 Klipsch Quintet III system regularly for $300. When they do, they usually run the 10", $400 sub for $250.

When you are ready to add the 2 rears, Klipsch will sell 2 additional satellites direct.
