monster HD DVD BOGO ad in their ad this week to. there is no doubt in my mind they are trying to liquidate stock.

If they wanted to get rid of the players why not just sell them for $60, instead of just giving them away. $60 is better than nothing at all.

They should give away HD players with the purchase of any of the "last second before checkout impulse buy" items that you see just before the registers. If I could get a HD player with, I don't know, a copy of Rolling Stone magazine or something, I'd probably do that.

Because people will be able to return them if it's a straight out discounted purchase. As mentioned above, this way the only option to return the HD DVD player is to return their entire sound system.

open boxed hd dvd players aren't that much higher than that and its not like they aren't selling cheap players too. I think the problem is, people get home, and they realize what they got on their hands it it comes back to the store within 30 days. giving them away makes the consumer keep the player so its out of the store for good.
