He's got one of those HD LD players too? Swa-eeeeet! Those LD players were for the MUSE HDTV's they had in Japan back in the '90's. It was a 1125 line (1035i active lines) but it was all in analog and when the camera pans, it can lose up to 50% of it's resolution, but it was a great technical achievment when it was first realeased. I wonder, what kind of cable did the Japanese use when connecting the MUSE player to their MUSE TV, seeing that there was no such thing as HDMI or even DVI back then.
