The fact that many speaker companies are falling by the wayside. Mirage, Jamo, Energy etc.

Actually my guitarist friend came over last night to jam, and brought his new girlfriend. After we played for a while, we watched Santana: Live at Montreux and Jeff Beck: Live at Ronnie Scott's. It was fun.

Not completely, but I'm getting there.

I wasn't too happy that Audyssey set my side surround crossovers at 80hz, but set the rear surrounds at 150hz, especially since they are all four the same speakers. I'm sure that it's because the sides are flush mounted on the walls, and the rears are sitting on shelves with nothing behind them. Today I woke up with the idea to build some back-supported shelf-stands, for lack of a better word, for my rear surrounds to try to get the crossovers a little lower than 150hz. Pictures coming shortly.

I'm not going to create a gallery folder, I'll just put them here. I added seperate spoilers so it's easier to scroll.

[Show spoiler]I started with a 1" x 8" piece of wood. I cut it 13" long for the backs, and 7" long for the bottoms. I also cut a little lip out so they will extend over the front edge of my shelves:

[Show spoiler]Next I put some woodglue on the joints:

[Show spoiler]Then I glued them together, and put three nails in each one:

[Show spoiler]Here they are standing up:

[Show spoiler]Next I trimmed the front edge off of my foam supports:

[Show spoiler]Here's one sitting on the rear shelf:

[Show spoiler]Here it is with the foam support:

[Show spoiler]And with the speaker installed:

[Show spoiler]Here is the height of my side surrounds:

[Show spoiler]And here's the height of the rear surrounds with the new back support shelves:

As you can see, an added benefit is that my side and rear surrounds are now almost exactly the same height. I may paint the little shelves later, but for now I'm just waiting on my neighbor to leave before I run Audyssey again.

I used a measuring tape to make sure both rear speakers are the same exact distance from the side walls, so everything is ready to go. I really hope this helps with the bottom end on my back speakers, because 150hz just seems too high.

Joe, the lower you set the xover on the surrounds the less bass info goes to the subs. The sub can play bass much easier then those small surround speakers. Plus your AVR will not need to use as much wattage to power the surrounds since your subs have built in amps. If it was me I would manually set all surrounds to 120Hz.

Never really given those two guitarists a chance but i heard they are good.

Good luck with your speaker stands and i hope audyssey changes it's mind after this hehe.

Ribbit...... Stop being lazy and create a folder for them. So it'll be easier to refer to at a later date.

The Audyssey program set my rear surrounds to 150hz. It is okay to adjust the crossover up, but never down after running Audyssey. If I just lowered the crossover to 120hz, there would be a 30hz gap where the filters would not be engaged.

I have to wait for my neighbor to leave before I can rerun Audyssey, because if I don't, then as soon as I start, he'll begin screaming for his dog, or slamming his truck door and starting it, and his truck is loud. Hell, even if he was quiet, he'd probably come over to ask "What the hell are all those beeps and boops?"

I've ran out of folders. I had to delete my homemade speaker riser folder in order to create one for my new AVR. Anyway, it's just a 1" x 8" piece of wood with glue and nails.

P.S. - I have them saved in a photobucket folder.

Ok then raise the other surrounds to 150Hz. You do understand what I was saying correct? Unless you are using floorstanders for your surrounds you do not need to achieve 80 Hz for rear and side surrounds. Let the subwoofers do the heavy work.
