Bad writing still holds. Just like the hologram plot device, which only served the purpose of not having them take the time to figure out how things worked.

Bad writing according to whom? If you ask me, people are upset for the simple fact that Lindelof was involved with the film, and that's it.

Was it bad writing for the Queen in Aliens to all of a sudden appear in the drop ship at the end of the movie?

Was it bad writing that the Alien Hybrid in Ressurection hauled ass from the Hive to The Betty at the end of the film?

Character development - what character development? There wasn't any - instead we had a bunch of cardboard cutouts who I didn't give a damn about (except for Fassbender as David).
Pretty much.

And why would you see this again? Well depends. Not saying this is in the same league as Blade Runner, but there are even people today who don't like it much initially, until they see it once or twice more. Maybe you honestly did not like Prometheus and have valid reasons. Maybe you are an upset Alien fan that is disapointed it wasnt the film you expected. Maybe you saw it wanting to dislike it and were on the lookout for things to criticize. There are many reasons. I think after time has settled, the hype is gone, and your in a different time in your life, you may think differently about it if you watch it again. It happens all the time. For me it was The Thin Red Line.
I would be happy to explain the reasons. Which have nothing to do with Alien. I will never go to a movie to a movie wanting to dislike it, I'm would not waste my time or money. I honestly did not enjoy the film. I have issues with movies that remove me from the film. Hair blowing in helmets, ungloved hands, and flamethrowers in a co2 environment is lazy film making. These elements should have been caught in post production. Then there are the serious plot holes and bad editing. I went in wanting to see a mature sci-fi movie for adults. What I got was no different than what has been done in the past. I have grown tired of the stupid scientists in movies.

Interesting take I didn't think of.

Exactly. It's basically the same kind of scenario. I don't know why everyone is so butthurt about it.

How hard is it to decide if something is badly written?

Yes on both of your other questions. It is also bad writing when the slasher always catches the girl. Or she trips and falls. When the bad guy explains his plan. They are plot devices that need to stop being used.

The helmet and glove stuff shouldnt ruin a movie that much for you. Besides that, I hope the inevitable directors cut will turn people around on Prometheus, and could fix the "serious plot holes and bad editing".

Lol, what are these plot holes people keep whining about? I would be happy to hear them from someone, because I honestly can't recall any.

Because the movie was decent, and really is just a smoke and mirrors prequel, I will buy this movie on Blu. However I don't expect a new cut to make it any better. That said, Alien, Aliens and Alien 3 all benefited from SE's or Director's Cuts so hopefully I'm wrong.

It's still 500x better than Resurrection.

Why should it not? It removes the immersion. It is the same thing as seeing string holding up a spaceship, or someone using a smartphone in a gladiator movie. It is something that should have been caught and fixed. The directors cut will only work if they re film some scenes, and re order others.

OK, I've waited for awhile to digest everything and read what others think.

This movie isn't (in its present form) what I would term a classic. If it didn't have the ties to Alien, I think people would be a little bit more forgiving. Alien "was" a classic, but time also helps us forget its flaws. Alien also had a lot less to explain (coming first). I'm also one of those Alien "cult" types, but think some explanations are forthcoming. There will clearly be at least one more movie and, very possibly, another cut which may be much better...this movie has/had a LOT of potential.

Fassbender just shredded in this film (but, remember, he had the best part and "probably" the easiest to play.....I realize there may be some disagreement here, but when you are playing an android/robot, you have much more license than someone playing a human like [most of] us ).

Noomi was ultra cool (I am going to have to see the first "Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" and the others also).

Theron is just frelling jaw dropping gorgeous, smart, and flat out talented. When she gets a good role, she just kills. Finding a Snow White who was "fairer" than she is and still had the talent to pull off the role was a tall task (and one that the makers of SN&TH failed at).

I guess you avoid any Sc Fii Film all together, including the ones pre Jurassic Park. Matter of fact any movie dealing with Visual Effects, ILM, Digital Domain, WETA, Harryhausen, Hitchcock, Kubrick, Carpenter, Rick Baker, etc.

I said the exact same thing on the way home from the movie. As a standalone sci-fi flick, I could give it a 3.5 or maybe a 4.

Yeah....we're in the same ballpark, but I would probably rate it a shade higher. I'm a sucky critic and a bit of a polllyanna.
