Well explained. I think this is one of the stronger moments. Right after most intense scene, this quit moment is really chilling and like what da f... Else is going on here. Nice

Maybe. But it was still awkwardly handled. As many people have mentioned it felt like scenes were cut. That sequence was probably the thing that bugged me the most about this film.

Prometheus: The Art of the Film (book preview flick through) - YouTube

Should get my copy tomorrow morning from Amazon.

Don't know if this has been posted:

Quote:
‘Prometheus’ Deleted Scene Revealed, More On That ****** Alien, Elder Engineers!

So much for being done with Ridley Scott’s Prometheus.

While I felt there was plenty clarity in the Alien prequel, many readers have felt confused by the lack of explanation. We learned quite a bit in Ryan Daley’s story posted this morning about the newly released “Prometheus: The Art of the Film”. And while his look inside revealed quite a bit, my own digging discovered even more.

Major spoilers do follow. You have been warned.

[Show spoiler]First, the opening sequence revealed a man, on some planet, drinking some ooze that causes him to break down into DNA that apparently created life. Some of the production art revealed “Elder Engineers” that were originally part of this sequence. Early trailer descriptions also revealed these cloaked figures were actually in the film, while IMDB once listed both Darwin Shaw and Matthew Rook cast as these “Elders”. The thought is that these Elders are actually the creator of the Engineers, a reveal saved for the sequel. A deleted scene perhaps?

[Show spoiler]The most shocking discovery, by far, is that of what appears to be a varient version of the “zombie” Holloway (played by Logan Marshall-Green). In the film, Holloway becomes infected, and thus returns as some sort of zombie version of himself (pictured). BUT, one of the leaked images show that Scott’s original intent was for him to transform into a Xenomorph-ish creature. Readers on the boards indicate they believe this creature to either be Millburn (Rafe Spall) or Fifield (Sean Harris).

Lastly, we’ve also added an image of
[Show spoiler]what appears to be the Engineers’ home planet. This is unconfirmed.

You don't think Brave is going to be huge?

Also, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is going to put up some numbers and draw some from Promotheus's target audience.

I went back for viewing #2 today (in 2D this time - still looked spectacular). I'm definitely in the positive camp. It's not perfect, certainly. The film's flaw I think lies in the character of Charlie Holloway. There's just not really any chemistry between Logan Marshall Green and Noomi Rapace, and the character is just fairly uninteresting (this unfortunately cripples the scene between them in their room, which is the one moment in the film that I feel falls completely flat). Some of the minor supporting characters also suffer from this. I think the script has a lot of interesting things going on, but I will concede that it often fails in compelling characterization for certain players.

But the film just has so much else going for it that it breezes past any shortcomings that might hinder it. It is, quite honestly, one of the most beautiful and visually arresting films I have ever seen. Also, the lead performances from Noomi Rapace and Michael Fassbender are truly astounding - especially Fassbender! Even if nothing else in the film worked (not so in the least), his performance as David would have me coming back to this film in years to come. His curious and likeable, yet frightening, performance is stunning and will probably be my pick for Best Supporting Actor this year. Also, Guy Pearce is very good with his limited screentime (even under all that make-up!), and a second viewing made me appreciate Charlize Theron's performance, which does not seem as cold in retrospect.

I also just love the story. Most people don't seem to like the open ended nature of it - but I love being teased with a little bit of knowledge, while leaving the rest up to my own deductions. I'm really looking forward to the sequel, if there is one (I really hope there is).

So, all in all - not a perfect film. But, then, I don't consider Ridley's much lauded "masterpiece" Blade Runner to be 'perfect' in the script department either. I've always found that to be more of a visual masterwork than a compelling character piece. Likewise, I find "Prometheus" to be one of the most visually stunning films I've ever seen - while not always excelling in certain areas of script and character. But they both feature compelling, powerful stories being told with at least one standout performance each that elevate them even further (Rutger Hauer in 'Blade Runner' and Michael Fassbender in 'Prometheus').

Also, I have to say I love the score - especially the contributions from Harry Gregson Williams (although the main bulk of the score by Mr. Streitenfeld is no slouch either - very impressive).

Bottom line: Oh, yes, this will be mine on Blu-ray. In the meantime, I've got the soundtrack playing on my iPod, and the "Art of Prometheus" book on its way from Amazon.

Side note: I really wish I could have "unseen" the film's theatrical trailer. It really did spoil a lot, and knowing virtually nothing about this film would have made the experience about ten times better. The teaser trailer was perfect, and they should have stuck to showing less in the advertising.

Brave "will" be big. I think it will also draw audiences from Madagascar rather than Prometheus. It's also a couple of weeks out. The vampire hunter thing...look, I wasn't going to go see it until I got talked into it. When I saw the preview, people were laughing (I mean REALLY laughing...). I'm down with that and will go see it as promised, but until Spiderman comes out, there's nothing out there that I see as a game changer. There is a 3 or 4 week lull and Prometheus isn't going to drop like SW&TH did. MIB, Avengers, and SW&TH will all pretty much track together (which is quite a feat for Avengers).

Time'll tell...ehhh?

Thinking about this some more....

The one thing that really bugged me at the end was
[Show spoiler]the fact that they resorted to using CGI to create the Alien. I realize Stan Winston was without peer and is dead, but come on - as the ultimate nod to the first two movies they should have used animatronics instead.

Never even occurred to me that it was CG. I'm quite the stickler about that stuff too, so they must've done something right.

I agree with a lot of what you said including this. The trailer was great but yes, gives away too much about what happens especially seeing
[Show spoiler] the Prometheus ram the Engineer ship and the crash

However, there are new projection technologies coming that will result in far brighter images and this issue with 3D being darker to the extent where it hurts the image should go eventually go away (at least in theatres with newer equipment).
However it was done, the 3D in Hugo was done right. I've been on that bandwagon since I saw it (the first day it came out). The story was fine, but the cinematography was just jaw dropping (maybe >>> than Charlize Theron, but that's apples to beauty). I also watched it on my home projector and it is, visually, far and away the best in my collection (I won't pay ripoff Avatar prices so I can't compare them). I'm hoping that the Prometheus 3D blu ray will be in the same league, but wonder about how a "darker" film will look on my HT setup. I think it will look really, really good because watching Prometheus in true IMAX 3D was visually stunning. I haven't heard anyone say the cinematography stunk (There was definitely ghosting in it that I never see at home, but that's a function of the filtering).

I've read and pretty much understand the concepts in the "Ultimate 3D Projector" thread on the AVS forum and there are some interesting possibilities out there for home theater. Any info you have for a kick @$$ HT system would be appreciated. As I understand it, Dolby doesn't need the high gain, polarized screen, but the filters can be frelling expensive and the Dolby light loss is problematic.

Bottom line is that we can enjoy movies for a lot of different reasons. Whether you liked the plot of Prometheus or not, it was, to quote an earlier post, a gorgeous film.

I never saw a trailer that showed a lot of what would happen in the movie and I went in with pretty low expectations, maybe that's why it was able to completely blow me away.
