My guess is that Paramount and Universal are in agreement to stay quite until Toshiba has dumped all of their DVD upconverters on the market / public. Or until DUD player sales have diminished to a trickle.

Toshiba will then make the inevitable announcment of resigning the HD DVD format. Paramount and Universal will then both go Blu exclusive. Toshiba has R & D BD player under development currently and secretly. After the Toshiba announcment and a very few months later, they will announce their first BD player for release.

Something of this nature has to have been given to the board of directors to keep financial backing in place. No board on earth would be playing along for this amount of time and put up with all of the finacial losses without a plan in place to move twards a prosperous future once again.
For the first time EVER, I agree with this Marcus character.

I also believe the situation will play out very similar to this, if not exactly. Everyone usually calls Toshiba stupid and retarded or whatever for backing dud. But the reality is they had their hand, and played it as best they could. Now from a clearly unbiased view, DUD is on it's way out and Toshiba knows this as well. No matter how much they loved their baby (HD-DVD) they know it's got no hope, and they need or want to remain players in the home video game. Realistically they are going to have to go blu or just support SD-DVD. So it's inevitable that they end up blu, but for now they need to try to get rid of their HD-DVD disc's and players. And prepare themseves for the transition.
