Well, trying to convince the mass market that DVDs aren't good enough will be a marketing challenge for the studios and consumer electronics industry. The public, after years of having it drilled into their heads that DVD is the best video format, is also being barraged with downloadable video, don't forget. But in terms of the successor to DVD, there is only one clear choice as an optical format!

Very true.

This may indeed be where profile 2.0 comes into play. As it seems most home cinemaphiles do have have much interest in such gimmickry, the masses sometimes love gimmicks, and where the average household may not be able to afford a quality 7.1 sound system, it is dirt cheap to run some Cat5 wire to your preferred location.

This is really happening at the best time for BD in the US. By next Christmas season, there will be a full selection of fully capable players available across a broad price range, no format confusion and a whole ton of movies available from all studios. Firmware updates will probably no longer be necessary on many machines. Samsung will have there BD act together. Americans will be out in full force shopping for digital televisions or tuners. They will be forced to see the difference. They will go to the store to buy a set top digital tuner, see a HDTV with a BD on display, and finally see the difference.

Early adopters will no longer be special.

Default looking forward to 2009

I will be waiting for 2009 when the switch to high def will be forced for all television. I believe it will help advance both the HD movie market as well as HDTV market (duh), and think this should introduce much lower priced teevees as well as even higher end ones (who makes an LCD over 60 inches?)

Now that the war is finally over, I certainly plan on buying lots more and watching lots more Blu-rays. With this in mind, I'll be upgrading to 1080p FullHD and buying a good home entertainment system to fully enjoy all the benefits Blu-ray brings to my viewing enjoyment.

Watching Blu-rays has brought just watching movies to actually living them. It's revelotionised the way I view entertainment like nothing else. Early 2007, I wasn't all that interested in films in a big way, it was just another thing to keep my entertained. Now a year later, it's become a way of life.

I fully embrace our new overlords!

Well I think I see myself becoming broke very fast when we get bombarded with Paramount and Universal releases. I think now my main concern is building up my library without any worries now. I'm gonna keep track of all the new release and start buying movies. So yeah... those are my plans

Well, I was going to write something clever about my post-war plans, but my brain kept being blocked by this dialogue from The Simpsons:

James Woods: "I'm off to fight aliens on a distant planet"

Marge Simpson: "Oh, that sounds like a good movie."

James Woord: "Yes....movie..."

Hey,

I think I want to consider getting a job. I bet there will be a flood of Blu Rays that I want and if I don't go back to work,.. I don't think I will be able to keep buying them as often as I do.

Just can't figure out what to do,.. my main interests are ... watching movies.

?

I will sit back and enjoy the movie. The focus can move to content, HDMI, and not reading endless posts saying something like down the drain with DUD.
