Default What will happen to HD DVD post-format war?

Hey guys,

Back in the days when i was six years old i took my cousin to the 4th floor which is the roof by the way. I stole his candy and threw it off the roof. he asked: why did you do that? I said: if you want it, jump after it!!!. and he actually jumped after it . he ended up landing on a car roof and the result, till today he stutters.

I was wondering if a fanboy, would be willing to pull that off, what do you think. sales are crappy for HDDVD. no matter how much exclusivity they pulled off nothing seems to work, like Universal being exclusive, or Warner's the Matrix, Batman begins, V for Vendetta, and god the list keeps on going and going like an energizer bunny. yet still BD stands strong in the format war. Actually even better, victory is knocking on the door begining of october 30th with spidey's release. what's left to do. EXACTLY NOTHING ELSE. yet they keep trying. check this out, and don't laugh. because you might hurt a fanboy's feeling. Now they will be releasing another overpriced tv show. a six pack HDDUD THAT IS ACTUALLY COST AS MUCH AS THEIR PLAYERS COST.

That's a pretty horrible story, you made someone jump like that for candy? I'd feel pretty awful, I can't get over that, that is nuts.

I think it's funny that this will be in a VC-1 codec. Not to mention that it will take up 6, dual layer 30 gig discs. If this were out on BD it would take half that and probably have a MPEG-2 codec. As far as what they will do, I think it will be like the Sixth Sense. To praraphrase: "I see a dead format, all the time."

I know you were only six at the time, but the fact that you tell this story with smiley faces now is a bit too disturbing.

I'll tell you what'll happen. Ebay will be full of auctions of hd-dud software and hardware. And when they don't sell, the discs will end up as coasters. And the hd-dud fanboys will be sadder, but hopefully wiser.

Don't worry about it. I am a nice guy, i just couldn't believe he would actually jump aftre it. but that story sorta relates to HDDUD fanatics. the fanboys are very attached to it, not realizing that they are falling with it. all the time, money and investments that they put on a dying format and still they can't break the fall. now another decieving offer by the HDDUD group, battlestar exclusive on HD. and i am sure it will sell, but it won't even break 1% of the sale.

No, instead they'll wallow in their martyrdom complex about how the global conspiracy of the evil Sony worked against them

Yes, that is exactly what they'll do. Because, as we know, for many of them their top two reasons for choosing HD DVD are:

(1) I hate Sony
(2) I hate Sony

Apparently, that is a sufficient basis for mass adoption of a new format in their mind.

- nah, I think they'll realize THEY "are the ones who are the ball-lickers. We're gonna continue to get new releases while you watch and cry like little *****es. Once we get to Hollywood and find those Universal f&*ks who were HDDUD supporters, we're gonna make 'em eat our s&*t, then s*&t out our (line deleted 'cause that's just nasty...). Then that motherf*&er Kornblau is next. Love, Jay and Silent Bob"

Hold up dude, let's be real though. HD DVD is actually not doing all that bad, considering we have something like 6 or 7 times the number of players because of the PS3, we are beating HD DVD sales by just 2:1. It doesn't look like this is going to end soon and if anything, all players could conceivably be dual-format (except for Toshiba and Sony players) if this goes on for another 2 or 3 years. The ONLY thing that would give BD a decisive victory is if Universal began to support Blu-ray, but that doesn't look like it'll happen any time soon either. HD DVD has some pretty good exclusive that I would love to have, and I'm sure many feel the same way. I LOVE the Bourne movies, and Battlestar Galactica. But being a Blu-ray supporter I can't enjoy these in high-definition yet. There may be many BD supports who could get an HD DVD player if they're cheap enough this Christmas just for the HD DVD exclusives, which I understand (heck, even I'm tempted!).

And fwiw, Battlestar Galactica S1 does not cost as much as an HD DVD player. It's retailing for $99, which Amazon will probably sell for $69. Show me an HD DVD player that is even $99 and I'll be buying one.
