Question What are your post-format war plans?

For the past six months I have avidly read the forum topics on Blu-ray.com but I have never had anything to post until now. It is looking more and more desperate for HD DVD and "The End" is inevitably drawing closer. Once that happens, what is everyone going to do? What am I going to do? Since the beginning the whole Blu-ray vs. HD-DVD has been kind of like a sporting event, but you don't continue to root for a team after a game is over. Especially when the two teams will never play again. It will be done. Over. No more exciting wins and crushing defeats. Just Blu-ray. What are everyone's plans?

I'll be done keeping track of which studios release what movies, and done with the disappointments that follow when seeing a Paramount or Universal logo. I'll also be done with being pissed off that a movie I like is being handled by Warner Bros, guaranteeing the quality is not what it could be.

If prices start coming down, I'll probably be buying a kickass standalone player and a hell of a lot more movies.

Well, trying to convince the mass market that DVDs aren't good enough will be a marketing challenge for the studios and consumer electronics industry. The public, after years of having it drilled into their heads that DVD is the best video format, is also being barraged with downloadable video, don't forget. But in terms of the successor to DVD, there is only one clear choice as an optical format!

Agreed mate.. the "phony" war might be reaching its conclusion but the real wars still to come.. convincing average Joe that he needs to get into HD movies. Once thats done and dusted then and only then will I be a happy chappy. I can't go back to SD movies now.. Blu-ray needs to become mainstream and quickly.

Very true.

This may indeed be where profile 2.0 comes into play. As it seems most home cinemaphiles do have have much interest in such gimmickry, the masses sometimes love gimmicks, and where the average household may not be able to afford a quality 7.1 sound system, it is dirt cheap to run some Cat5 wire to your preferred location.

This is really happening at the best time for BD in the US. By next Christmas season, there will be a full selection of fully capable players available across a broad price range, no format confusion and a whole ton of movies available from all studios. Firmware updates will probably no longer be necessary on many machines. Samsung will have there BD act together. Americans will be out in full force shopping for digital televisions or tuners. They will be forced to see the difference. They will go to the store to buy a set top digital tuner, see a HDTV with a BD on display, and finally see the difference.

Early adopters will no longer be special.

So many good comments above. In late December, I was just drained and burned out on this rediculous stalemate between the formats. We get some movies others, we don't. Same for the other side. Just wanted it to be over and done with. True, the DUD fan bouys gave us a few good laughs and a few WTF statements from our side on the wild statements coming out of their camp.

The Studios were holding both sides hostage. I'm going on vacation for a much desreved rest. Just looking forward to ALL titles now that will eventually come our way.

i'm going to continue what i've been doing; converting as many people as possible to BD and buying the BDs that i want.

i'm sure there will still be diehard red ants left to mock though. their type apparently are like cockroaces.

Default looking forward to 2009

I will be waiting for 2009 when the switch to high def will be forced for all television. I believe it will help advance both the HD movie market as well as HDTV market (duh), and think this should introduce much lower priced teevees as well as even higher end ones (who makes an LCD over 60 inches?)

Now that the war is finally over, I certainly plan on buying lots more and watching lots more Blu-rays. With this in mind, I'll be upgrading to 1080p FullHD and buying a good home entertainment system to fully enjoy all the benefits Blu-ray brings to my viewing enjoyment.

Watching Blu-rays has brought just watching movies to actually living them. It's revelotionised the way I view entertainment like nothing else. Early 2007, I wasn't all that interested in films in a big way, it was just another thing to keep my entertained. Now a year later, it's become a way of life.

I fully embrace our new overlords!
