It's frustrating to get motion-sick or dizzy in a car, or on a boat, but now it seems more and more movies are causing this feeling. Have you seen a movie that made you dizzy??? While I singled out "shaky-cam" in the title, I'm referring to any camera style (e.g fast cut action, panning and zooming, etc.) that might make you dizzy. I didn't see a list out there already, so please help me build a list so that those of us who get motion-sick can avoid these movies!

I like them when it makes sense. Sometimes in a war movie or something where it helps with the feeling of chaos and confusion. I just hate when they use shaky cam for no reason. Like theres movies where the camera's all over the place in a two-person dialogue scene.

Yep, this film definitely made me dizzy. The boat scene with the rocking back and forth and the way the action scenes were cut, I had to turn it off part way through.
And that's a bummer about Battle: Los Angeles. I heard it had great lfe, guess I'll never find out. |

Poor camera work is poor camera work, regardless if it's handheld or not (hand held isn't bad per se). In movies like Jarhead or shows like The Thick of It, it works wonderfully.
And while Tintin can't even have handheld shots (since there's no camera), there aren't even shots in there that are supposed to look like they're handheld. |

Possibly one of the worst offenders are the action sequences in Quantum of Solace. Overally though, such camera work doesn't do anything but annoy the hell out of me 99% of the time. |

You can add Rob Zombie's "Halloween" (2007) to your list. It's used minimally (mostly towards the end of the film). I don't seem to mind it, but I can see why it would bother some.

As I have gotten older, I have become quite prone to motion sickness . . . never had it when I was younger.
i love giant monster movies, but Cloverfield damn-near killed me. I saw it in theaters, and when it was over, I went outside and sat in a blizzard for 10 minutes waiting for the dizziness and nausea to pass. I don't do shaky-cam movies anymore. Not all make me sick like Cloverfield did . . . It is also a technique I find over-used and a poor substitute for proper movie-making. When I found out Chronicle was a "found footage" movie, it became a non-see for me. |
