In the UK at least the one being shown in front of Spider-Man is version one, from December. We only have one version that's been released in this country.

In the US version two is just a slightly edited version of version one with a couple of shots (the pipe smoking, Gandalf fighting) replaced with more 'innocent' shots to make it suitable to show with Brave.

I saw the trailer with Spider-Man in IMAX 3D last week. Wow. Just wow. I'd seen it countless times at home but seeing new Middle-Earth footage on a cinema screen, with that music and Gandalf and Gollum and the shards of Narsil and everything else... It blew me away. It took me right back to watching the original Lord of the Rings trailers back in the day.

I am beyond excited for this.

Intriguing images, especially the one with Gandalf conversing with Beorn in bear's form (which does not happen in the book).

[Show spoiler] "Bad dudes": 3 trolls, lots of orcs, Gollum, wargs, spiders, one dragon, and vampire-like bats. In the auxiliary material, it looks as though the Nazgul (dead kings) will be included, and Sauron as "The Necromancer" (probably not represented as an eye at this point in his history). Even Legolas' folk, the wood-elves, get to play "bad dudes" for a little bit.

Bad dudes can be good also.

And the one 'bad-ass dude' that I am excited to see is 'Beorn in Battle'.

Much bigger pic below VVVV

Anyone want to hazard a guess what a certain ex-owner of The One Ring will look like in this film? Trying to imagine how they could maintain some form of continuity with Lord Of The Rings with is appearance without it being 'silly', if you get what i mean.

It all depends on how Jackson & co. interprets his evolution. At this stage in the story, he is completing the process of "taking form" after his defeat by the Last Alliance at the end of the Second Age. The Silmarillion ("Of the Rings of Power and the Third Age") tells us that "... Sauron was for that time vanquished, and he forsook his body, and his spirit fled far away and hid in waste places." So by the time and place (Dol Guldur) depicted in the movie, he is material again - immediately prior to his permanent move back to Mordor, and probably to an advanced degree. The easy thing for Jackson would be to maintain continuity and have Sala Baker reprise his role and appearance as per the prologue to "Fellowship". But he could also get creative and have WETA make use of their mastery of make-up and CG to give Sauron a new, interesting - and terrible - form.

Afterthought: I recall in "The Fellowship of the Ring" movie Saruman telling Gandalf that Sauron does not have the power to assume physical form. Of course, that is not the case in the book where Gollum tells Frodo that Sauron still has four fingers on his black hand (after having the ring finger cut off by Isildur), "but they are enough". Obviously, that creates a dilemma if Jackson decides to have a physical Sauron. So by his own limitation, my guess now would have to be that Jackson will have to depict him as some kind of (super-)wraith?

Unfortunately, the article mentions a scene that is different from the book:
[Show spoiler]In the movie, the Wood Elves help fight off the spiders. That means we are not going to see the Wood Elves' campfires repeatedly going out.

Thanks for that, GrandB, that is most definately food for thought. I have an image in my mind from no particular source of Sauron looking like a clothing-draped humanoid with completely blackened skin, the only thing visible being his eyes which are in the same shape as his form in Fellowship. I'm sure Jackson et all will do a fine job. Having Gandalf stumble upon a giant flaming eye between 2 pillars in a dungeon would be rather weird!
