Ok.

You8 don't have an HD-DVD player. You have a DVD player. So movies will still come out for your system.

Blu-Ray and HD-DVD are for HD content. DVDs are Standard Definition.

Well, you have the right to be upset... if Blu-ray was losing, I'd be upset to. There's really notihng you can do about it. I'd go paintballing or skeet shooting to blow off some steam... but that's just me.

Probably....

But could just be a completely mis-informed person.

I've seen some people buy HD-DVD combos, take them home and watch the DVD side being completely ignorant that they just over-paid for a standard DVD. Not really watching HD

Your probably right but it could be ignorance and not trolling on purpose.

If they are it is one of the strangest trolling incidents in a while. Lets try to straighten this out and then see what the response is. If it is a "while thats stupid" then we can say troll. For right now lets just see where it goes shall we?

Okay...I take back my TROLL statement. You're uninformed. Word of advice though...before you jump into Blu-Ray, save up your money and get a HDTV. We'll look for you to come back soon!!

You need not go away, if you want to find out more about Blu-ray and HDTV's this is a great site. Check out the forum here and the FAQ which can be accessed by clicking the word FAQ in my post.

No you can't, but when you save up the money to get a Blu-Ray player, you won't have to get rid off all your DVD's. They will play on a Blu-Ray player.

HD DVD came out in April 2006, Blu-ray June 2006. There was a format war from the beginning.

What "HD DVD" player model do you own?

yes. just... its useless.

They will look the same as a DVD. However, you'll be future-proofing yourself. You'd get the uncompressed audio if you have a good receiver though.

I would really... REALLY urge you to save up and get a nice 1080p TV (Or, if your on a budget... a nice computer monitor with HDMI in the back ) and a Playstation 3. It would be relatively cheap for what your getting.
And hell, maybe even save up and get an Onkyo 605 7.1 audio receiver. Might take a while for that one though. Most people cant just dish out 400 bucks for insane audio.

DVDs look like crap compared to Blu-rays. I can barely even stand to watch the things anymore - unless its free... like, at a friends house or somthing. then im all good.

Read the faqs for some more info on the format... its well worth the upgrade.

Nope, sorry. The technology is completely different. Besides based on what you told us about your TV it does not sound like it can display HD content because it does not support High-Definition resolutions.

I think you reversed the placement of the formats in the question. Blu-ray movies will NOT play in a DVD player. However, a Blu-ray player will play DVD and Blu-ray discs but it will not play HD DVD discs.

No you can't. Blu-Rays are for High Definition.

However once you get a HDTV, Blu-Ray players will make your old DVDs look loads better.

I'm actually quite impressed your DVD player is that old.

I bought my first one in '98 as a DVD-ROM drive since it was cheapest. Upgraded in '99 to a stand alone.

'01 I had to upgrade again for DTS since I got a Home theater system. And I was tired of the small skip on my old player on layer breaks.

'05 I got a Progressive scan system since I upgraded to HDTV.

'06 I jumped into Blu-Ray for high Def.

So for you to still have a player that old, without seamless branching, no advanced audio and still chugging along is impressive.

Sorry, you can't. But a Blu-ray player will play both blu-rays and Standard DVD's. But you aren't really getting anything if you just play DVD's on a Blu-ray player hooked up to a Standard TV. So until you get HDTV, there's no point in jumping into High Definition. All the movies available on Blu and HD-DVD are available in DVD, so you're not really missing out on movies. You're just missing out on clearer picture and sound quality.

Default No money for a HDTV and a Blu Ray player???

What is wrong with this post? He says he has no money for the new HD technology, using an old TV set with RF converter to play DVDs?... and he can not afford a HDM player in years he said?? Not even with the Tosh firesales? (Blus are out of his league as I can see). How can he have a computer an internet access?? This is not real... not even J6P.
Best,
DJ Headd

I'm shocked that RF adapters exist for PS3 and 360. What's the point?
