Default Plasma, LCD or Projection?

Right now, I'm in the market for a new HDTV. Projection TV's are a lot cheaper than plasma or LCD, but you have to be right in front of it to see it clearly. There is also the problem of brand to get. I'm thinkin Sony or Samsung are pretty good brands, but i want to see if anyone thinks of a different brand that might be better. Some ideas?

IMO

sony or samsung for LCD.. 120 hz. you can't go wrong with either brand and no one makes a better LCD than those two companies.

Sharp Aquos LCD has a great pic but I have heard that a lot of owners have had banding isssues with them.

I owned a samsung but upgraded to a sony xbr4. Love them both,. the sammy is now in the bedroom

Pioneer for Plasma..

keep in mind lcds use less energy than plasmas too. I don't know the exact amount but I have heard it they actually use a LOT less energy. Just one more thing to consider. Saving money is saving money no matter how you do it =]

I wouldn't buy a projection for the reason you stated above. I know many people who owned Projection HDTV's and have all since replaced them with LCD or Plasma

Depends on your room, I went LCD because I have a bright living room and I watch sports during the day. Also I play videogames and didn't wanna worry about burn in issues. If I had a dedicated HT room I'd prolly go Plasma for the better blacks.

If within your budget, do yourself a favor and check out a Pioneer Kuro.

^^^ Agreed, burn in can be a big problem with the plasmas - I dont really want to see my guns from COD4 when I am watching the footy!!!
I got a 32" set in January last year, then got ma PS3 and realsied that 32" just wouldnt cut the mustard any more so got myself a nice 40" 1080p Bravia with free HDD DVD recorder. Well worth the money - only problem is that now I dont know if the 40" is big enough!!! Dont think I will be happy until ma TV is the size of my wall!
Happy Shopping!

I have a cheap end plasma (Maxent) currently. I play COD4 about 4-5 hours a day now and have never had an issue with burn in. Burn in is pretty much a thing of the past. You have your all white and multi color features that you can run to help eliminate even more of the so called burn in. Just like anything you need to take CARE of your stuff. If your room is not very bright get a plasma. With plasma you dont have to worry about motion blur or soft blacks. If you have a lit room, def get an LCD with 120h to help eliminate motion blur.

By the way I have a 50" Panny Plasma on the way!

Pioneer Plasma Displays now come with one vital component no other 50" - 65" HDTV can offer
Pioneer ranked "Highest Customer Satisfaction with HDTV's 50" to 65"" based on the inaugural JD Power and Associates 2007 Large Screen HDTV Usage and Satisfaction StudySM. Among eight television model lines examined, Pioneer's line of high definition televisions ranked highest within the key 50" to 65" screen size range. The study measured customer satisfaction relating to four key factors of large screen HDTV's - picture, and sound performance, ease of operation, HDTV features, and appearance and styling.

LOL, I always like to read those "BURN IN" commants from those people who believe in the plasma FUD. Like quote "Stay away from plasma if u gonna play alot games", Dont get plasma cause they still have BURN IN issues" I was actully kinda skeptical before making the purchase but I went for it anyway casuse I really think the pic is better then LCD IMO. I found those to be untrue after owning one but people can beleive what they want. Unless they actually own one has the problem. They should not spread those FUD to other peoples IMO.

Tell ya what @xxxxx!!!, anytime you're burning phosphors be it CRT or Plasma you have the potential to have burn in, sure they're making great strides in preventing it. But for those of us who have kids, some of who have been known to leave static images on the screens for hours or even overnight when i'm out of town, well, i'd rather just not have to even worry about it... !!

hello,,, know that you are new here, but the comments are way out of line...

Plasma's, in their early stage, we are now in generation 10, had the problem. There is now several ways arround it, moving pizels is just one.. The only problems I have is with displays used for signage, and more with a certain brand than others

I have a plasma now and my buddy has a LCD (Sony XBR4) MY plasma blacks absolutely dominates for 1 thing. Next I think the plasma is also richer looking color. LCD is great also but it is a little on the "too bright" side to me. This is just my oponion on the 2. The main thing to look at is if your in a well lit room or it can be dark. If you are in a darker lit room buy a plasma. Panny just intoduced there Series 8 wich has a 30000:1 native contrast ratio with 10000000:1 dynamic contrast ratio. They are shipping early April. Just put my pre order in for the 46" at $2199.
