I have a Panny Plasma and have no complaints about it...

Well only one, it's not 1080p but other than that it has served me well.

They do. Not a fan of Samsung plasmas, love the Panny for the price and the Pioneer for the stuff that really matters.

and probably 80% more expensive

im not looking for the absolute greatest tv ever, just 1080p would be a great upgrade from my current 720p set

Then you should take the Kuro off your list? Seriously, quality-wise the Pioneer is best IMO, but at a premium. For me it is worth it but I'm sure many won't agree. Now if I wasn't gonna pay for that premium and the choice would be between the current Panny and Sammy I'd go with the Panny. Just remember that no panel is perfect and its all about compromises.

Default Pioneer, then Panasonic, then all the rest.

Pioneer plasmas have better picture quality than Panasonic plasmas but the Panasonic will be a better value. The Samsung plasmas are really at the bottom of this selection and I would only recommend getting a Samsung plasma if some incredible discount shows up.

I feel that Pioneers are a little over rated.
I gave the Pio ,Panny and Samsung a test drive in my living room for 3 weeks and the Sammy won.
The Sammy gives the best color control topping that off with Screen burn protection and a 2 year factory warranty which the Panny and Pioneer cant touch.

I recommend the Samsung 5084..I also own one
Ive owned mine for about 6 months now.
Its a fantastic Plasma giving excellent performance at a great price. The color this plasma puts out is top notch giving very deep blacks .The screen burn protection and 2 year factory warranty Sammy has on the 5084 cant be beat.
It also got great reviews at Cnet,

Panasonic is better, the Samsung has a high contrast, but not nearly as accurate. If you have both the samsung and panasonic professionally ISF calibrate you can get them to look almost identical. If you are just buying and hooking it up out of the box, definitely the Panasonic over Samsung. But easily the pioneer over both

It's purely a matter of picture quality. Though some will disagree the 1080 Kuros don't have any real competition in that department right now. Nothing I've seen comes as close to the coveted "looking out the window" experience as the Pioneers.

Default Pioneer all the way

The Kuro all the way! Best black levels and sheer color accuracy! I probably would rank the Samsung slightly ahead of the Panasonic. Keep in mind I am a custom av business owner and have been selling all three brands since they hit the market back in 98.

Default pioneer 5080hd owner here

Bought from best buy for $2049.99 a few weeks ago, yes it is 720p. I have to say though its pretty damn good on Blu Rays!! Had the Panny 700u and brought it back for the 5080hd.
It comes down to what you want to pay and what your eyes like. What I did was bring my OWN Blu Ray into BB and had em move a BLu player from tv to tv to tv. Same BluRay Disc, same player, same hdmi.... Pioneer won my dollars spent! They dont like to do this but when told it will eliminate my reurning tv's till happy....they laughed and said "ok".
Room lighting, viewing distance and the fact that I watch a lot of sports also made this the proper set for me....
so whatever you buy....just make sure it is what YOU like for YOUR needs!
Best of luck
-me
