Balance (1989)
An Academy Award winner for Best Animated Short. Five guys standing on a floating platform must maintain balance in order to prevent it from tipping and causing them to fall. Great message and a must-see short.

The Bourne Legacy Review

Final paragraph:

The good news is that the ending works both ways. You can believe that Cross and Shearing escapes the grid or you can choose to believe that it sets-up a sequel. If there is a sequel, you just hope they do not kill Shearing off within the first fifteen minutes of the sequel. The bad news is that there is nothing in The Bourne Legacy that matches the brilliance of The Bourne Ultimatum. Renner is a good lead but there is nothing as adrenaline-pumping as the Bourne v Desh sequence or the car-chase in The Bourne Ultimatum. There is no shame in calling this the worst entry in the Bourne series. I personally think that this would have fared better if it were unrelated to the Bourne franchise and not have to try to live up to the predecessors’ achievements. As it is, I reckon this is a decent thriller that pays tribute to the Bourne series even if it falters in living up to its legacy.

I'm Here (2010)
A romantic sci-fi short from Spike Jonze about two robots (Andrew Garfield and Sienna Guillory) who fall in love. The idea and the main plot are pretty brilliant and well thought out. Just might be the best thing Guillory has ever done. Would've liked the film a whole lot more if it wasn't too hipstery.

I originally gave it a 4.5/5 when first seeing it in theaters and then later lowered my score to 4/5.

It's definitely better than Revenge of the Fallen but can't quite measure up to the fun of the original.

Rashomon (1950)
Second viewing. The plot and the "Rashomon effect" it started are genius. Cinematography is also impressive especially for a film that was obviously shot on a limited budget; love the use of light and darkness and the way the various shots were composed. Acting by Mifune and company is admittedly quite unnatural and dated. The story also drags mostly during the first half. There's no question though in regards to how influential this film has been.

Overblown/uninteresting/Hollywood crap.

I would rather know what a person is thinking before a battle than seeing the battle itself. I prefer all the walking and dialogue to the battles in LOTR even.

I'm the same with war films. I don't care about men throwing grenades from a bunker, I only care about the psychological effects of war. Give me The Reader or Grave of the Fireflies over Saving Private Ryan.

Very surprising then because Kingdom of Heaven is very much about the characters and not the action.

Characters facilitate the brief action that the film has, not the other way around as usual for big movies.
