Nielsen VideoScan for week ended March 11:
SI, Blu-ray:HD-DVD 100:89.25 YTD, Blu-ray:HD-DVD 100:47.37 This gives us an estimated weekly sales ratio of 100:23 and a significant drop in number of sold discs per week on both formats but especially for HD-DVD. These numbers are the first numbers that include the week of the Amazon 50%-off sale. They do not include any sales of Casino Royale which was released March 13. It looks like no released titles really meant no disc sales or Nielsen VideoScan does not get the Amazon sales numbers from Amazon. I have seen one source (pcmag.com) that claim that Walmarts sales numbers are not included. Walmart didn't think it gave them any advantages to provide sales numbers to Nielsen VideoScan. Is it the same for Amazon? http://www.nxtbook.com/nxtbooks/ques...hp?startpage=2 |

Hey once it is going to include the Blu-ray disc sold from march 12 not including only amazon but DVDempire and every place where you bought a single BD and with the launch of PS3 around the world .BD sold will be unbeatable by our fellows HD-DVD.Look at Departed once included the PCM soundtrack what did 20.000 discs sold against 13,000 for HD-DVD and Warner Bros are telling us to BUY THD .........and this is not final BD is OVER HDDVD and still not final.Warner you are going to loose a lot of profit if you release THD.
Release Batman Begins with PCM and see by urself how BD is going to dominant all or at least titles you promised us to catch up later we are waiting for you |

Still advertising 'up to 7.1 channels of audio' - I wonder if they will ever release a title that has more than 5.1?
On the happy side, breaking into the '80s from the '90s for SI numbers is great - especially with no Casino sales included. I expect that CR will move that number significantly by itself. |

The Blu-ray ads (and promos) also promote 7.1. Of course, we can be pretty sure every BD player would handle 7.1 LPCM. The HD DVD camp always play up what current BD players don't do as a format issue, and conveniently ignore what the current HD DVD players don't do. Gary |

It's Enron-like sales. HD DVD is selling whatever they want to claim it is selling. Simply put, if HD DVD was selling better than the numbers we see, Microsoft would have Warner and Paramount trumpetting this. Gary |

Last time I checked, the three closest Wal-marts to me all carried a handful of BD titles solely because of the PS3. None were carrying HD DVD yet. I'd expect Wally world figures to enhance BDs lead, not hurt it. But the fanboys at AVS are even more desperate than Microsoft. Either they couldn't afford to be early adopters but were suckered in by HD DVDs low entry costs or they're affraid of having to tell their wives they talked them into betting on the wrong horse.

I think Nielsen VideoScan account for about 60-70% of the market which gives a pretty good indication of the whole market. Because the have both on-line stores and regular stores in their data and because both formats sell-ratio should be about equal in all stores Nielsens data should not be biased towards neither HD-DVD nor Blu-ray.
Walmart is not the only source for HD-DVD:s and they do sell Blu-ray also. Can't see any reasons to why Walmart should sell so much more HD-DVD compared to Blu-ray than any other retailer. |

Hey, only 360 titles to go until they hit 600. Only 40 titles a month. ![]() It's another example of how every number stated by the BDA is considered a lie, and every number from HD DVD PRG is gospel. This is religion/politics not an A/V format war. ![]() Gary Last edited by dialog_gvf; 03-16-2007 at 09:52 PM. |

IMO, the significant drop in BD titles sold and the fact that these numbers don't include the Amazon half off BD sales date isn't a bad thing.
It just means that the primary BD consumers at the moment can't pass up a good deal when they see one. ![]() |
