In my CD collection (nearing or surpassed 700) the vast majority of Heavy Metal is harmoniously infused with the couple of dozen classical CD's, as it should be. My movies are no different. Although I am considering segregating TV seasons from movies. And I want to put Batman Begins right with The Dark Knight, but that will throw the alphabetical peace out of whack.

^^-- you're one of those "Alphabetical" people

If I weren't so lazy, I'd do that.... heck, I might be able to find stuff!!! My "system" would have to change though, because I put the "recently watched" to the top/left (depending on how they're stacked) so it's easier to see what I haven't viewed in awhile.

Yeah, I was thinking the wife may be the only hope for maturity and wisdom in that house, since the poster was acting like an insecure tweener himself.

For me it really has nothing to do with impressing anyone. It's sort of my hobby and I just prefer not to collect lousy films. Since Alvin and the Chipmunks seems to be the film of choice, it just doesn't feel right next to 2001: ASO or The Godfather.

in tiny letters on the spine with a Sharpie pen just put Batman just right before it says The Dark Knight

Well, they'll likely come out with a box set for the Batman films, so that should solve that problem.

Nice to see a thread (albeit one that's four years old) on this topic already!

Growing up, I usually kept my media collections in my room because I was a teenager and that's just how it was. I'll be living with my GF soon though, so it just got me wondering how others feel about it. How many members keep their collection separate from the movie collection of their signifcant other/family?

Me and my partner have shelves around the TV area and keep each of our collections separate. I like to keep mine in order and have a few different 'sections'... he has his own way of ordering his. He doesn't 'collect' as much as me (and in fact mainly has DVDs, but I still have plenty as well) but still wouldn't really have any desire to mix them up with mine. I wouldn't have thought it's that weird to have shelves for movies, books or anything really separated by family member, not really sure why it would be an issue, but maybe that's just my experience.

I put The Dark Knight after Batman Begins. When films are in a series, that trumps their actual, alphabetical title in my opinion.

As for myself, I am unmarried and have no children, but if I did, I most certainly would seperate the movies. If you want to have a lot of white box movies (that's my slang term for romantic comedies, my sister has a lot and they are almost all in white boxes), that's fine, but don't expect me to put them beside the main collection.

With 800 blu-ray, 2000+ DVD's I ran out of space long ago. My DVD's are in books now, no cases, so at this point my son and my wife both have their own collection which are seperate from mine. Theres just stuff we own I just, in good faith, can't have even next to my disc's!

If I ever get married and have kids, I'd actually take the most hardcore R-rated films out of my collection and lock them in a chest.

I'd hate for my offspring to be forever traumatized by such films as "Salo," "A Serbian Film," "Human Centipede" 1 and 2, "I Spit on Your Grave," Uwe Boll films, etc.

, what a loser of a thread. Oh no my wife owns Sex and the City and my son owns Kung Fu Panda, I can't have those next to my movies. I don't want anyone thinking that they are mine, because I won't look cool . OP, do you also walk on the opposite side of the street than your wife/GF when she is wearing something that you don't like the look of?

As a wife and who has 2 kids with the oldest being 12, I keepthe kid stuff and more mature stuff separate. My 8 year old daughter has a bunch of her DVDs upstairs for the 2nd tv. I don't keep the DVDs and BluRays separate though do put tv shows together. All the Disney movies have their own spot.

All our movies are right next to each other in the collection. If someone wants to come in my home and make fun of the Santa Clause being next to Sunshine then they are going to be in a world of hurt. Trust me, after serving two combat tours overseas, I have learned to stop sweating the small crap

Never mind any future offspring, but you may just want to store those movies in a secret location so your friends and family don't know you have them. I forget how it came up, but my wife asked me what "Human Centipede" was about. After I stopped laughing, I told her even I would not watch that movie and explained the premise to her.

I actually do seperate my movies and my kids movies. I just find it makes it easier for my kids to pick a movie that they like. Although, my son always goes through my collection so he can pull out the superhero movies.

You're probably right. I guess I was hoping to find some friends with similar tastes and high tolerances to share these wonderful films with, but chances of that happening are probably slim.

My family would probably disown me if they knew what these films were and knew I had them.

In my movie cabinet, I have my movies separated as follows:

Blu-rays…..all blu-rays even if they are the kids’, the only blu-rays they have are the Disney/Pixar/Dreamworks blu’s….but I consider those mine.

DVD’s….the ones my wife and I watch.

Holiday dvd’s….pretty self explanatory, I hate looking @ Christmas Vacation and The Santa Clause when I’m trying to find a movie to watch in June.

Kids DVD’s….these are the Scooby Doo, Strawberry Shortcake, Care Bear, Dora & Diego dvd’s my kids have. They are not alwd to be mixed in w/my dvd’s.

Plus the kids’ dvd’s are kept on a lower shelf so they can reach them.
