I never had any doubts about this, but hearing Whedon's enthusiasm gets me more excited.

Thankfully Avengers was decent. But then he was working with pre-established characters due to the lead-in movies.

I have high hopes for Guardians Of The Galaxy, since I'm a huge fan of the modern comic. But Whedon's vouching means little.

Amen Troy. I really hope they don't go with that weird Cockney/Aussie accent for Rocket though.

He never was written anywhere suggesting that he had such a bizarre accent. So I hope they drop it.

But judging that they used it in MVC3 and Avengers: EMH... I fear he's gonna get saddled with it.

Because your excessive hate on Whedon is getting old. That's what. You've dragged it on for a long time. He absolutely knocked Avengers out of the park. You shouldn't be worried about Guardians of the Galaxy if he's endorsing the director of the film, that should be a good thing. Obviously marvel feels the same way or they wouldn't have kept him in such a large capacity for phase 2 of their films.

James Gunn Confirmed to Direct and Rewrite Guardians of the Galaxy

And Gunn released this statement:

For a month or so there’s been a lot of Internet speculation about my involvement with Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. Until now I haven’t said anything, because I’m trying to be less expulsive about this project than I am about the rest of my life. But last night I got the go-ahead from Kevin Feige to let you all know that, yes, indeed, I am rewriting and directing Guardians of the Galaxy. As a lifelong lover of Marvel comics, space epics, AND raccoons, this is the movie I’ve been waiting to make since I was nine years old. Kevin, Joss, and all the folks at Marvel have been amazing collaborators so far, and we’re committed to bringing you something majestic, beautiful, and unique. I am incredibly excited. I am also incredibly grateful to the fans and the press for all their words of encouragement and support regarding my involvement with this project since the news first leaked. Looking at the way that Marvel have been very hands on with the Phase 1 films, if Gunn's interpretation of Rocket Raccoon and the rest of the GotG is not up to scratch, they'll change it.

You've got Gunn, who thought beating Warner's CN school-bully retro-kitsch into the ground was hilarious enough for two Scooby-doo movies, and you've got Marvel trying not to pretend that GotG is one of their more retro-kitschy attempts at reviving an expired and often fan-sneered franchise for a new audience--What do YOU think will happen, kids?

Yeah, just looking at the comic I can't understand why they'd choose to throw away millions of dollars on this. At best it will be a bomb and disappear quickly. At worst, it will bring down the credibility of all of Marvel's other movies. I loved "Iron Man" because as far-fetched as it was, it was believable. Some of that got chipped away very slightly in "The Avengers" when nobody raised an eyebrow about an alien invasion. It will go completely out the window when a talking raccoon shows up.

Isn't that an oxymoron? It's either far-fetched or believable, not both. And I believe an alien invasion can happen in the same universe as a god from Asgard fighting them here on Earth. It's all relative, and I think it worked pretty darn well. I also think, in the right hands(which I think it is), Guardians can work too.
