I like it as well. Removes the emphasis from Iron Man and gives each Avenger more of a share.

Of course if it turns out they have dropped the commentary from the UK release and pull a John Carter and downgrade the audio to HR then I will definitely be importing.
Since we posted I had this email back from Disney:-

Thank you for contacting Walt Disney Studios.

Thank you for letting us know about an issue on the Marvel Avengers Assemble UK Blu-ray and DVD release, which has a less graphic depiction of*Agent Coulson's confrontation with Loki. *Each country has its own compliance issues relative to depictions of violence. Unfortunately, another region’s elements were inadvertently used to create the UK in home release which minimally altered this scene in the film. *

Our home entertainment content and distribution strategy is devised at a local level, taking into consideration the numerous variables that exist in each market based on size, timings, broadband speed and overall consumer demand.* This means that some functions and bonus can vary from market to market. In this instance, because a combination of the European release dates being earlier than the US release dates and unforeseen circumstances with production, some linear bonus was not available in time to meet the regional timing including the commentary.

Call me old fashioned but that response is BS. They are gready plain and simple. We are talking a week between the US and UK release markets. Big deal!

Sorry if you've reposted your email response but Disney look like they've copied that response from one they gave a few weeks back. It was a load of bollocks back then as well!

It almost seems they want to confuse people (who ask them straight forward questions) with a load of gobbledegook.

That's the exact same response I've just received, except mine had this additional:

With regard to replacements, we would recommend that you contact the
retailer the item was purchased from in the first instance.
Presumably because I mentioned a possible replacement program ( which they still haven't really answered )....

thats cod-shit on another level as if anything, the home release's have more relaxed guidelines for ratings and the theatrical version wasnt editied

I bet if we all started sending our disc's back for refunds they'd take note
BTW which email are yo complaining to Disney via (not the DMR one I'm assuming) regarding the edit?
This whole fiasco has bothered me so much I'm willing to take time out to add my complaint.

hate to say it but the only thing Disney got right, was byt having a generic (cheap?) steelbook and a removable title card so we we'rent stuck with an 'Assemble' steel. ONE thing right and so many things wrong....think I'd rather put up with printed text of a title I dispise if it meant they didnt ball's things up so much *and exhale*

also, lmfao - as The Avengers (the release in general, not the retailer specifics - that's just ANOTHER in the list of complaints) has just been on BBC's Watchdog due to 'most special features being removed (upon release)' and the edited scene (of course).
If Disney dont take some kind of note now then I think I'll officially give up. (for those bothered its just before the 48min mark and is a VERY short 'in other news, headline' type piece)

(I'll be honest, I've actually just written to Watchdog explaining how its not a new thing with Disney UK screwing us in comparison with US releases....not sure it would help, but if we all dropped them a message Ms Robinson may put some actual pressure on a Disney representative
[Show spoiler]High hopes I know
)

(apologies for creating 2 new posts but although I've posted this in the other avengers threads I thought it may be interesting enough to highlight)

I'm sorry but if the spear would have brought it up to a 15 rating, then so be it. No valid reason for releasing the film cut on Blu & DVD.

The BBFC do *very* occasionally make 12A films 15 for DVD if scenes in them go quickly on screen as they figure for home viewing it's possible to slow it down to watch the goriness. I am certain NOT saying that this was the case here (only the BBFC could clear that up... and I wish they would) but it is possible... however I believe Marvel have said the cut/German version was used in the UK print "by accident" and this tends to suggest the uncut version would have got a 12 on home media.

Whatever tha case, as we've seen recently with Hunger Games (for example) since the BBFC no longer restrict distributors to 'all releases must have the same BBFC rating' like they used to, even IF the uncut version would have been a 15 they could have released both versions with different ratings if they wanted to. The usual practice at the moment seems to be the DVD gets the cut and the BD doesn't (presumably as they believe BDs tend to be bought by film afficiandos who care about such things... no comment on the accuracy of this!) but there were multiple options open to them which they didn't take.

I got the blu ray and the cut sequence is not that big for me to justify importing it.
Now I have no doubt that there will be loads of you who import it because of the edited sequence,I don't normally bother about extras but on this occasion I feel cheated in a big way but as I stated before I'm not going to import it because of this.
Saying that I remember importing attack of the clones due to a very small headbutt sequence.
Did anyone else notice the end sequence at the restaurant where it looks like Thor had time to shave between the ending of the film and getting to the restaurant

Giving the release a one star review is just ridiculous.

The vast majority of the general public won't notice the cut and could care less about a commentary track. Those issues aside (and yes they're important to the tiny minority of afficianados, of which I count myself as one) the disc is reference quality and the price isn't unreasonable the way it has been for some "premium" Marvel releases in the past.

Disney deserve a huge slap on the wrist for treating UK fans so shabbily, but when all's said and done giving this release one star is just sad.

What rating would these people have given the title if the picture quality or audio had also been rubbish (far more important issues for most of us), if they've already given the title the lowest mark possible despite reference quality video and audio?

Heh. I thought whiny one-star amazon reviews were reserved for the Star Wars prequels and Indiana Jones 4.

On a separate note, I see that amazon.com has dropped the price of the Blu-ray/DVD combo, good news for those who want the superior version free from customs interference (new price is below the £15 threshold).

But they would reduce the price AFTER I ordered my free copy, wouldn't they? Bleedin' typical.

Default Assembling the Ultimate Team in iTunes

I don't know if anybody else noticed, but the missing featurette "Assembling the Ultimate Team" is available to download on iTunes for free. Nothing to get excited about though, it's just an 8 minute piece of fluff

It is on a podcast feed though, implying more to come? Could they release the commentary here (it is UK specific)? Wishful thinking, I know.
