I agree, most renters will not care. I mean, how many of those people know about loseless audio like we do? My buddy still thinks dolby digital is king.

Well if they're renting blu-rays, and probably own HD audio equipment as well, why wouldn't they care? The OP did!

Still, I don't see the big deal. If you like the movie well enough after you rent it, then buy it and get the full experience. It's not like the drop-off is going to be so drastic that it will keep you from enjoying a movie enough to later purchase it.

It is false advertising. If the DTS HD MA logo appears on the face of the rental disc, I expect it to be available on the rental. I pay Redbox a hefty premium to rent a blu-ray rather than a DVD. That premium is for PQ and AQ. In addition, the audio codec should be listed in the rental info for the disc on the Redbox web site.

Agree will probably not rent from red box or blockbuster they do the same thing any more. Nothing worse to read a review of a movie where the reviewer is praising the awesome lossless sound track then to go rent the movie and some lossy sound is the only option and the lossless stuff thats supposed to be there is not! I usually stop watching at that time, because i know if i finish watching this neutered version I will end up feeling like i never got the whole experience.

I wish this shocked me in any way, but it doesn't. It all started with Blockbuster and the ****ing Weinsteins only renting R-rated, 2.0 audio barebones dvds of titles that had unrated, 5.1 and full SE treatment in retail (Dimension Extreme line). Since then, other studios have been falling in line by removing content from rentals. I quit even looking for used discs at BB cuz of this!

So now they take it to another level. I would guess next will be inserting black and white scenes like screener discs to **** over renters even more? How about just half the movie? Studios can say "If you like the first half, buy it and you'll love the second half". And some people still have a problem with downloading? It's a 2-way street between studios and us, they are no better, in some ways they are much worse!

Thank God for my local library (which gets retail versions of BD's, and usually the unrated or SE if possible)!

So you think everyone with HD audio equipment cares? You think everyone is an elitist like you? Think again, not everyone gives a rats ass about HD audio. My father in law has a HD set up and does not even know or care about the sound, he just loves the picture lol. Not everyone is like you.
