There are also many successful box office block busters on all formats as well. BD included. Not sure where you are going with this. |

I remember as an early DVD adaptor. Movies cost $25 to $40 bucks when they were first being released. And that was in 1997's money. Much more by today's comparison. |

You remember incorrectly. The very first DVD titles (from Warner, New Line, MGM/UA, etc.) were MSRP $19.95 to $24.95 in 1997 money, even in the initial test markets. The price didn't change when they expanded to nationwide distribution later in the year.

I don't know about you, but I went hog-wild in January, picking up 14 titles in one month! So far in February I have slowed down some, only 7 BR titles so far this month (still trying to find Run Lola Run).
![]() March was expected to be a big BR month even before Paramount and Universal went Blu. I plan on getting: No Country for Old Men, ID4, Predator, I am Legend, and I, Robot. Plus one or two others. |

There was a war?
Picked up four movies today and I even payed close to retail. Best Buy selection was horrible. Everything was picked over and the most exciting thing I got was Warriors. Yeah it is quiet but I expect some exciting releases coming this year so not really complaining. |

If a movie is garbage, it is the fault of the director, actors, writers, producers, and the studio that made it and not the fault of the Blu Ray technology. Eventually, all movies (bad & good) will be released in Blu Ray.
Obviously, studios are in the business of making money. It is understandable that they want to wait on their better quality assets for the market to develop more fully. In 1997, most of the initial DVD releases were in the so called "garbage" category. By now, almost all movies are available on DVD. Taking the format war into consideration, Blu Ray releases are way ahead of DVD releases. |
