Why does the size of the room matter???? We're not talking potential power, better receivers have better sound quality due to cleaner power etc....
I personally don't care for Onkyo anyways, but I know many do because they can be had on the cheap.... |

It's going to go in a small bedroom. However, I want sumptin pretty good so that I can use it in an apt living room in a couple of months.

It takes more power (and better equipment) to fill a large room with clean output. So if this setup is for a large living room connected to a kitchen, then a HTiB won't do. If it is a small appartment, then a HTiB may suffice although I wouldn't go that route. The room size and the acoustics of that room are extremely important in setup and design.

Consider the Sony 5400ES AV receiver with maybe Infinity TSS-1200 or TSS-4000 speaker package. Not sure if Best Buy's Magnolia stores would sell that or not?

If you can snag that Pioneer Elite 91 with Employee discount pricing, my recommendation for the best 5.1 speakers they have without going to separates would be the JBL 500.5
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1172882131588 Then you can start looking towards replacing your fronts with some nicer bookshelves and moving the satellites to your 6th and 7th channels, replace the center, etc., etc. Long term outlook with quick results. The JBL 5.1 and 6.1 satellite systems are some of the best I've heard in that league and they don't ***** out in the sub department either. Yes, you're not getting 16Hz pounding through your chest, but you do get a decent response down to 30Hz, which ain't bad for a $400 5.1 speaker set. |
