I'll see if I can can the unaltered broadcast hd version in the next week.

As is I watched the blu-ray last night and sometimes the alteration felt right, but overall it felt off, not bad but off. The Halloween 4 blu-ray felt much more off (and much darker), and shoot there seems to be less outspoken complaints there.

It is nowhere near as bad as the screen caps looked, at least on my uncalibrated monitor, but the "dusk" scenes still are very dark, and I find myself straining my eyes, as if I'm wearing sunglasses. The rest of the movie looks great. It is also the only Blu Ray that I have to watch in "Theater Mode" because it removes the blue tint, and the yellows in particular return.

Have it ever occurred to you, this is the way Tom Savini wanted the movie to look in the first place, not how it looked theatrically and on DVD, but didn't have the modern technology (that's available today) to do it?
I agree that this is most likely the case. From what people have said about it, it sounds like they 'made do' with the sunny conditions but they would have preferred a gloomy day - technology later let the DP achieve that.

I would prefer the original version on Blu but at the end of the day the studios own the movie and we are purely consumers. We have bought the product and if we aren't happy with the new look there is an offer of a refund. I think that's a very fair offer. I think the people who have shouted loudest about this are the eBay scalpers.

Reviews, like opinions, are like a**holes. Everyone's got one and everyone else's stinks.
Have you actually read one of the reviews mentioned? It's seriously lacking in any kind of substance. I've seen forum responses in this thread that come off being more professional than this.

I would like to address the naysayers that have attempted to damn the quality of the transfer provided by Twilight Time. You are reaching. You may even have a bit of the ol’ sour grapes for not picking up this release. The quality is gorgeous and those pictures comparing it to the previous DVD release really don’t do it justice. This is the 2010 transfter of the film that Tom Savini himself is praising. So folks who want to troll this release it is my duty and honor to let you know that as a horror fan, a fan of quality Blu-ray transfers (though no expert) and a fan of nice packaging, this is a in fact an amazing release. Audio? Check. Video? Check. Eight page booklet with brief synopsis of the film, old and new artwork and that fresh new collectibel Blu-ray smell? Check. I’m a fan of horror. I am not a quality snob, but I absolutely know when something looks bad. I know when a transfer isn’t up to snuff. You have nothing to fear. If I had one criticism, it would be that it’s lacking special features. It’s a a pretty but bare bones release.

Much like the guy who does the Bond reviews and obviously favors all the films that aren't the Roger Moore-era. Pisses me off.

I wonder where TT finds all of these obscure reviews. I might be mistaken but I don't recall seeing JMK's review or the one from HDD posted on their FB page.

Severin banned me for posting the Blu-ray.com and DVD Talk reviews of Horror Express on their facebook page. I haven't bought anything from them since.

What? Their stuff is selling either way. The fans are the ones that are pissed and they should be. However No one is going to pony up and make a brand new transfer so that is the end of it unfortunately. So now like 5 people can return it and the rest that are unhappy will just sell it and make 60 to 80 bucks. Done a great job of turning everyone into scalpers really.

Abso-freakin-lutely on the Wild Geese. Also Zulu Dawn. Been waiting on those two to reach the U.S. for about a year now, or at least it seems that way.

There is still one mystery left to answer. Why hasn't Sony aired this new master on their Sony Movie Channel? Why hasn't Sony given it to anyone else (Vudu, Amazon, etc.) for streaming?

Sony clearly put some money into a new transfer... why wouldn't they be selling that one the last couple of years to anyone buying rights to air/stream it?

I personally would love to know the answer to that... why give that version to Twilight Time now, 2 years later, but nobody else in the meantime?

Just received this yesterday along with Enemy Mine. Very impressed with how fast Twilight Time shipped them to the UK (and I opted for the standard shipping!) Thought NOTLD looked just fine and agree with most people that the film looked nothing like the screen-shots posted.

I'm honestly not sure, but is it a regular occurrence (ever?) to see a BD transfer aired on TV? Don't they usually use different ones for HD TV airings?

There are times where transfers on TV actually look better than the Blu-ray... Scream comes to mind. These are not always one and the same. It is perfectly reasonable to assume in this case, that Sony wanted to wait to show off the new transfer until this Blu-ray was released by them... but things changed and catalog releases slowed to a crawl, so TT ended up with it instead. I bet they are probably counting their blessings now, seeing what the reaction to the color time change has been.
