That sux, but at least Amazon isn't bustin balls. Another option would be to use the refund to buy those 2 individual titles from Amazon UK to keep your set consistent. You've got 20 days until Halloween and will still come out ahead. Just an idea.

I received my set today from the UK and had a defective phantom of the opera disc. When you contact amazon uk for a refund/replacement do they make you send the whole set back before you get your refund/replacement? I just hate to have to wait weeks again to get them and not have them for Halloween.

You could just wait till after Halloween couldn't you? That way you'd have the others, that's IF they make you send the whole set.

True, though it does make me wonder with other reports of defective discs on here. I guess luckily for me the defective disc was phantom which was my least favorite movie of the set anyway.

People need to be more descriptive than simply saying something is "defective". That doesn't tell us anything. It's like saying your car is broken.

The first person that I saw to report a "defective" Creature disc got a replacement disc...which displayed the exact same problem as his first disc. That raises the question of disc vs. firmware.

So when people say they got a defective MUMMY or defective PHANTOM, we're left to wonder: defective in what way? Broken in two? Won't load? Won't play? Plays but starts to stutter? Audio dropout? What the heck does "defective" mean?

I was heartbroken many months back when my copy of PAL JOEY from Twilight Time would stutter just as Rita Hayworth was singing the last of her signature number. The disc would freeze for a couple of seconds, the player would make some noise, then it would resume play. Several weeks later, I found a firmware update for my player...and PAL JOEY played as smooth as glass and hasn't stuttered once since (and I've played it a half dozen times).

With no information to go on other than the word "defective", I must take it with a grain of salt that there are truly defective copies of three different discs from these sets. I hope people will hold tight until better information is available. Don't send discs back like that first guy with the problematic CREATURE disc...only to find out your replacements play exactly the same way on your player.

Mine was defective because it freezes 50 minutes into the film and won't even go back to the menu. I've tried on both my magnavox and Sony bluray player. Same issue.

Can people with the defective discs please describe the defects? I played the first 10 minutes of my UK Creature disc and didn't notice any issues. Thanks!

YES, YES, YES!

Please elaborate with details on the disc problems so your fellow blu-ray.com members can check our discs for similar issues.

THANKS!

The disc loads and plays, but freezes. I'm assuming this is a one-off manufacturing issue and not a problem consistent throughout the whole batch.
My phantom disc that freezes looks very similar to that. So I imagine just a select bunch of them had these issues.

Yup, my Creature disc is defective and has a blotch similar to Joe Dalek's. Called them up and they're having me send the whole set back.

Definitely. Better wardrobe too.

Little disappointed that there was no real extras for Gill Man. But man, the 3D treatment was stunning!!!

DO NOT skip the Universal back lot feature on the Creature disc. Nothing to do with the movie, but everything to do with Universal Hollywood's back lot. I was there once, my high school band from Florida was in the Rose Bowl parade in 1980. While touring the lot on the tram we glimpsed Belushi and Aykroyd at a soundstage door in their Blues Brother suits. And Frankenstein came over and crushed my friend Andy's cowboy hat while sitting on the tram just after boarding, hilarious. Have made many trips to the Florida location, its my favorite amusement park.

Defects = Ass.

My ratings of the 4 movies I've watched so far
1. Dracula
2. Frankenstein
3. Wolf Man
4. Mummy

Gonna watch the rest sometime next week.

I also picked up Van Helsing, Wolf Man (2010), Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, Bram Stoker's Dracula, Young Frankenstein, Abbot & Costello Meet Frankenstein, and The Monster Squad. What do you guys think of these films?.

Im just curious if the people that are having the defective discs, checked them on the first day they opened their set.

I also got a defective Creature From the Black Lagoon disc
Doesnt have any blotch's on it but the edge of the disc is all screwed up looking.
About 2/3's of the way through the movie it started playing all choppy and shit, almost as if its been put on a slower speed.
Phantom also has a weird edge on it but I havent actually checked the disc itself to see if anythings wrong with it.
It really pisses me off to hear that you have to send the WHOLE set back to get a replacement. What a bunch of bullshit.

Something I have done in the past is report the problem. Amazon then will send out a replacement (and - at least with domestic shipments - will send out a prepaid return label, but sometimes only if asked). I wait til the replacement arrives, then switch out only the defective discs. That way I know that the ones I've already watched and were OK I won't have to immediately RE-watch from a replacement set.

Since Amazon gives (I think it is) a month to send back the original before charging for a second set, that is usually plenty of time to receive the replacement and check/swap out the necessary discs.

Is it the coffin set or the regular UK set that has defective discs?..Checked my set and some of the edges aren't the smoothest looking. I will play those back next and see if there are any issues in playback.

update. The Mummy loads fine plays fine..no problems at 50 minute mark.playing right through fine .....using my older Pioneer Elite 05 player so if there are any issues, this player will be more sensitive to them than my OPPO 83.
