another update:testing the Creature from the Black Lagoon....not smooth edges as others...loads just fine..playing fine..advanced to middle of movie ..no problems.

So far..no aluminum bubbles..some rough edging....no play back issues

so once again someone is yanking our chains. This happened in the Titanic forum to send owners of the UK version on a wild goose chase. He got a big laugh out of that one and a nice warning to boot.

I doubt also that someone got a set and replaced a disc and that was defective also all in one week from the UK since it takes more than that to get a set delivered.THanks for the BS

nice try..that's the labeling on the other side showing through ..very common on BD discs

This situation is the exact reason many of us prefer not to import. I understand the US sets could be effected just the same as the UK ones, but it is nice to know you can ship your return back for free and have a replacement within a day or two.

In fact, the very first report of a Creature problem was based on a disc from the U.S. set. This appeared on hometheaterforum (I'm not registered there but I read it on occasion).

I would still urge caution about this Creature "defect".

One user reported a firmware change corrected part of the problem. Obviously, correcting part of the problem isn't good enough. But the fact that a firmware change affected it, and the fact that it is on both UK and US sets still points more in the direction of authoring than a manufacturing problem.

I double-checked my Creature disc last night; replaying the last half of the movie. I got the same result as earlier in my Panny BD75. Playback itself was flawless. No glitched whatsoever. However, the player could be heard as if trying to read data.

Note, here's one of the first problem reports posted by user Ken Volok at hometheaterforum:

"Thanks everyone for your replies.
US version. At approx 58:00 it started getting really bad, but it actually begins earlier.
"

So this is not limited to one set or the other.

watched right through that and I am still watching at this moment..no glitches whatsoever. So unless you see something don't spread the rumors. If it's a 3D problem then note it as such as the 2d is flawless.

WTF?

Mr. Cinema asked if this was reported on US discs or only UK discs.

I quoted a user who reported the problem on a US disc (2D, in fact).

I was simply answering a question that had been asked and nobody else was answering.

My ratings of the 4 movies I've watched so far
1. Dracula
2. Frankenstein
3. Wolf Man
4. Mummy

Gonna watch the rest sometime next week.

I also picked up Van Helsing, Wolf Man (2010), Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, Bram Stoker's Dracula, Young Frankenstein, Abbot & Costello Meet Frankenstein, and The Monster Squad. What do you guys think of these films?.

Well, IMHO:
Van Helsing - Eh. 4/10
Wolf Man (2010) - 6/10
Mary Shelley's Frankenstein - 7/10 (Good re-telling of the book, missing the charming ambiance of the 1931 film)
Bram Stoker's Dracula - 7/10
Young Frankenstein - 10/10 (Love this one!)
Monster Squad - 8/10 (Charming)

So you're saying that since your UK discs play fine, its not possible for other discs to be defective? Are you seriously listening to what you're saying?
It's happened many times where a "bad batch" of discs get out. This is nothing new. I don't see why someone who has posted, numerous times, in this thread would all of sudden feel compelled to "scam" people.
Also, how exactly would this "scam", as you call it, work? If everyone plays their discs and they work, there is no "scam".

Also what is the "scam" on Titanic? If you're referring the the audio pop in the opening minute, then yes, that was widely confirmed by almost everyone in the Titanic thread...including myself.

If there is something wrong with the UK disc, as someone who is expecting their UK coffin set today, I would like to know.

My order finally got out of New Jersey and is sitting at my Post Office as of this morning. I doubt it will get to me today but hopefully tomorrow. Any one else that has been in Jersey since Monday check your tracking as I'm sure a lot of them will be updated today.

So, it's only the UK version of The Mummy that is having issues?

Some people are also reporting issues with "The Creature from the Black Lagoon" at about the 58 minute mark. Although that might just be a firmware issue because of the hybrid 3D/2D disc.

My UK Creature plays fine in 3D , didn't try the 2D. You can see the defect on the surface of Mummy disc

Yeah, what really sucks is you will probably have to return the entire set for an exchange. Maybe if you haggle with them they could just send you the standalone "The Mummy" disc and you can swap it out. I doubt it though because that makes too much sense.

In what way can you initially tell it's defective?
