Makes sense, as the Elves don't show up until the half of the story that's in Pt. 2.

Btw, are elves Unbearably Smug?

I'm assuming he's from the goblin army that attacks with trained wolves.
(Although said animals now pull sleds, instead of being ridden on.)

If my memory is correct he is the son of Azog the goblin. The same Azog who was slain at the gate of Moria in the battle of Azanulibizar. Also later Bolg (don't read this unless you want to be spoiled)
[Show spoiler]fights in the Battle of Five Armies (presumably as the leader) and is slain by Beorn.

With three movies in production, I have a feeling we will get to know Bolg and his dad Azog quite well. Azog was a particularly bad dude, therefore I can't imagine Jackson passing up the opportunity.

Yes, but I think it's pronounced "Grow (as in the word "glow" with a long 'o')-in.

You can find it in the family trees in the Appendices.

Which, if true, means Oin is pronounced like Owen and Gloin is pronounced like "Glow-in".

New TV spot with a few bits of new footage - including a very welcome first line.

If The Hobbit movie used the nomenclature in Bored of the Rings, it would be called "The Boggie" starring Dildo Bugger of Bag Eye. Gollum had a colorful name in the story.

That looks like an excellent opener. I have been hoping that the opening lines of the book would be narrated and that's how it would start.
