I'm hoping the "A Hero Will Rise" exclusive disc will end up being sold separately here or somewhere, like the Avengers exclusive disc was. I'm getting the Steelbook, but I'm very interested in having that bonus disc as well.

I've read tons of Spider-man, most recently the awesome David Michelinie and Todd McFarlane Amazing Spider-Man Omnibus over the summer.
First off, I don't agree that Spider-Man's struggle all boils down to that one thing. That's a valid interpretation (perhaps based mostly on the Raimi films), but it's not a constant theme of the books. In fact, in the book I just mentioned, I don't think it's there, period. Far more common and integral to the character is his being witty and teasing his opponents, an element which you'll see in almost every Spider-Man comic ever but is virtually absent from the Raimi movies. They have the character, but his personality isn't there. In the books I read, Spidey is challenged by lots of things, including love and financial woes. But they do not involve Peter constantly bumbling around, getting pushed and shoved by everyone he meets despite his advanced reaction time and spider speed, getting fired by pizza guys for stupid things, and basically failing at nearly everything he does. The real Spider-man is not a loser and he's not that mopey. Also, the chemistry between the two leads does matter from any objective standpoint. You may not care how well Peter and MJ or Gwen get along, but both the Raimi movies and ASM hang a significant portion of the plot on exactly that. If the audience doesn't buy that they care about each other or the relationship is written poorly (Raimi films), then the film doesn't work as a whole. Even if you care more about action than romance (and what dude doesn't), ASM's action and special effects are orders of magnitude better than the Raimi films, so it holds up there just as well. I find it quite pathetic some people think anything sentimental equals to Twilight.
For one, you must be a real great catch. Second, have you even seen Twilight? That's sentimental? Jesus. The Internet is as much a blessing as it is a burden. Foolishness should stay with the individual not broadcasted. |

There was footage from one of the premieres, where some two-bit journalist, for one of those shitting entertainment programmes, asked Andrew Garfield if they'd up'd the romance angle, to appeal to Twilight fans. Garfield looks at him, as if to say "WTF are you babbling about?!" Last edited by Sky_Captain; 10-25-2012 at 06:55 PM. |

There was a scene in the 1960s, somewhere in the issue 70s where Parker gets pissed at Flash and picks him up and is about to destroy him and then he backs off--exactly like in the movie.
So yeah, that was a part of the 1960s history. As for aunt May, it would have been straight up stupid to portray her in a 2012 movie the way she was shown in the 1960s--as a befuddled, always sickly, sterotype of an old bitty. And Sally Fields is 65, but I'm sure she will appreciate the compliment that she looks in her 50s! |

MJ and May are front and center in so many of his arcs, that it's hard to not to. Not in every issue, but in many of the Spidey books I've read he grapples with doing things to protect MJ and Aunt May, while staying true to his role as a "hero". But not just May and his girlfriends, but his uncle as well, seeing how his "with great power there must also come great responsibility" phrase is one of the basis of Spider-Man's morals. The quote may not originate with Uncle Ben, but it has been used as a strong enough literary device to attribute it to him. Of course, in my opinion.

Much more than most other comics in the 1960s Spider-man was divided between his 'civilian' life (girlfriends, school life, aunt, job at Bugle, etc.) and his activities as a super-hero.
All 4 movies have reflected that and gained a decent female audience % in the process. Last edited by Bolty; 10-25-2012 at 07:58 PM. |

In a nutshell, excluding the action scenes, as I indicated here about a week and ˝ ago…. https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...90#post6612190 the vast majority of the ‘Amazing’ flick is as flat as a pancake. |

Hi Sap.
For the IMAX presentations the aspect ratio was different (from the typically presented 2.39:1 ratio as in the traditional cinema theatrical presentations) to a more opened up 1.9:1 aspect ratio (which in Digital IMAX corresponds to a 2048x1080 image) for several dramatic scenes. |

Glad to see you back! That's a shame about the 3D. I'm still excited to see this movie, as most I've talked to had pretty good things to say about it! As a retired comic geek(is that even possible?), I'll always have a soft spot for comicbook movies! ![]() |

I have my pre-order for the 2D release from Amazon, with Amazon Prime shipping that's supposed to arrive on release day, but my shipping estimate says I won't get it until the 13th.
![]() Anybody else have this? I already had a delay issue with my copy of The Great Mouse Detective due to backorder. ![]() Edit: Now it says the 9th again. ![]() Last edited by KACENAID; 10-26-2012 at 06:15 AM. |
