That's exactly the point. Not only is Uncle Remus not a slave, but he's also the character who's portrayed the best in the film.

The other characters are either showcased as ignorent, idiots, or downright A-holes by comparison. Hell, the two older boys want to drown a puppy!

The people who judge the film so harshly have probably never even seen it. And are going off preconceived notions.

My pick if I had any say would be the guy who did the Pirates movies, or
Richard Donner, but I think even he is a dinosaur at this point.

Kevin Smith, yes if you look at his movie style he is an obvious hell no, BUT he is a huge fan who would really take fan considerations to heart.

or my last pick would be whoever made Race to Witch Mountain.

On second thought, just get Seth Green.
Everyone you named in that post is more or less a "dinosaur" of the industry. None of them are up-comers.

And the guy who did Race to Witch Mountain is called Andy Fickman.

Seems like in the end Disney will own everything. Including your souls. Oh, wait they already bought that years ago.

They figure if people will keep paying to see them, they will keep making them. Alot nerds out there.

You really have to work on your diplomatic skills a little.

The guys who made ID4 simply for the modeling and spaceship effects. I don't want CGI ships.

Tarsem Singh, could really bring in a nice visual style for the alien races and costumes (I know he has somebody he usually uses for them).

Guillermo Del Toro. Hellboy II for example gives an idea of what a modern Cantina scene could be like. In general just a visual expert.

Ridley Scott without the crappy writer's used in Prometheus. The visual style he is capable of creating is simply stunning.

Peter Jackson could do quite a job as well of course.

Michael Bay for the flashback of the Death Star exploding.
I hope you were joking, because if Roland Emmerich got to direct a Star Wars, it would mean the certain end to all that is good in this world.
Absolutely not suitable.

Peter Jackson shouldn't do Star Wars either. He is the JJ Tolkin guy, and he has Weta, so I doubt he would use ILM, which are a huge part of SW.

Michael Bay???
Please tell me you just find joy in tormenting innocent people with your suggestions!

In order to, quickly, answer the question if: Hamil, Ford, & Fisher will be back for Episode VII...just check the local trainers! If they are working out, odds are it's for this movie.
Of course I'm just kidding...seriously, through clever writing, dark flowing costumes, make up, and creative shots, they could easily be incorporated into the Thrawn trilogy! MAKE IT HAPPEN MICKEY!!!!!

Joss will be tied up with Avengers 2, so I'd say... Brad Bird.

The guy made The Incredibles, and churned out one HECK of a Mission Impossible sequel. I think he'd knock it out of the park.

What can I say, I really like the model work in ID4, it reminds me of Star Wars when I watch it. Of course 10,000 B.C. is one of the worst movies conceived...

I'm not asking for the Millennium Falcon to fly in front of a sun (instead of the usuall helicopter sunset shot in Bay movies), just some explosions. Why can't Bay be strictly in charge of of that?

Actually, a lot of the directors mentioned here are bad fits. Joss Whedon is a no go. And, whats so special about his dialog?

Gore Verbinski? The first Pirates film did catch lightning in a bottle of sorts but they got progressively worse as they went along. I didnt see anything from him that stood out.

Ironically, the original Star Wars films were directed by relative unknowns and that does have some advantages. With a veteran director, they will somehow try to inject their style into it and that may not be good. I joked about this very thing on another thread when Ternece Malicks name came up: It was like "Great, then we can have a 4 hour Star Wars movie where nothing happens for the entire film except some looooong shots of ships cruising around." YUK!

Seriously though - other than Speilberg, I wouldnt trust anyone else at this point.

What about Ridley? I know hes busy but I do like his style for the most part. Cameron is tied up with Avatar but I like him over the others on this list.

Dont forget that Lucas did attempt to hire David Lynch for ROTJ but David turned it down due to the story already being so far along. Id almost say to give him a chance. He can direct all kinds of movies and has before.
Come on dude. Imagine Mace Windu surviving the fall and loss of his hand in EP 3, bumping into Luke in EP 7. Then having a showdown with the new Sith Lord and reciting Ezekiel 25:17. " And you will know my name is Windu when I lay my lightsaber upon thee!"

For me it's either an newcomer, or

Steven Spielberg, who can direct any kind of movie, is a close friend of Lucas, has always wanted to direct a SW episode, is a longterm partner of Kathleen Kennedy's, always uses John Williams as his composer, almost always, except for Tintin, uses ILM as the main VFX house, knows GL, does Sci-Fi and fantasy very well, adventure, and humor. I would totally trust him, even though his endings are sometimes on the sappy side.

Joe Johnston, who used to work on the original SW movies, goes way back with ILM, has a great sense for action, adventure, fantasy, and sci-fi, and works well with others.

Perhaps, J.J. Abrahams, as he definitely adores SW, and has made some amazing films, that are fun, adventurous, have sci-fi and fantasy in them, uses ILM as his VFX house, and seems to be a really nice guy.

But maybe, it's the less obvious choices, and indeed unknown talents?!?

Directors not at all suitable to come even near Star Wars:

Christopher Nolan- the guy seems to have zero sense of humor, nor a sense for a fun adventure, and can't do anything lighthearted like SW.
Too dark and gloomy. Takes himself way too seriously.
Doesn't fit at all.

James Cameron- is a horrible writer, way too commercial, usually writes, produces, and directs himself, so he wouldn't listen to anyone, and be a pric$ to work with.
Would have a Celin Dion end credit song .
Always has some tough chick in it.
Fortunately he is too busy with his 1-D Avatar videos anyways.

Ridley Scott, Michael Bay, Joss Whedon, David Fincher, and please don't even mention Tarrantino!

No one too serious, or too dark, as that's not Star Wars at all.

How about Terrence Malick? We could have 25 minute scenes of nothing but a Star Destroyer passing by the screen. Oh wait, Mel Brooks already did that.

U need to remember that the film was made in what, 1996?

Now, Emmerich uses mainly CGI. Just watch 2012.

Also, Star Wars is not about big explosions, it's modern morality tales in a sci-fi/fantasy setting, and old-fashioned dialogue.

Don't get your hopes up for a Thrawn trilogy ... Disney already said it would be an original story ... and since the original outline Lucas wrote was part of the deal, I'm willing to bet that the outline is used as a starting point for the story.

Yeah I know, just a fantasy for them to still use models. Not the end of the world if they use CGI (most likely).

I know, but there are always a few explosions

You never know with Hollywood! I'll admit that using the Thrawn trilogy as the backdrop for 7-8-9 would be a longshot, at best.
In the meantime, give me: Willow & the Clone Wars cartoon on BD, and I'm one happy camper!

agreed. not a fan of any of them, although Michael Bay movies are okay if you just expect eye candy and no real story. I think we need to take the Batman approach and look outside the box. Not saying Nolan should direct it but when they first said he was directing batman begins, how many people went "who?" i that is what we need here - someone not well known but with good ideas. who that is, beats me! just as long as his name doesn't start with "JJ". screwing up one series that starts with Star is bad enough but 2 would be a sin.
