Yeah they changed the format at my Walmart as well. They had the normal stock they usually do of Blus. There were around 14 or so of them and around 6 or 7 duds. They moved them in with the normal DvD section at the very back.

2. Beowulf or any other new HD DVD title has not been stocked at all, not sold out, not stocked!

3. HD DVD player prices have been slashed in half. A2 is now $74 by me.
no offense buddy, but what is the point of this thread. HDDVD is already dead, i don't see the logic behind this thread.

I noticed #2. In fact I thought that was really odd, considering they had American Gangster available on HD DVD. But the Beowulf display didn't have any spot for the HD DVD, and there wasn't a spot in the HD shelf space (what little is left for HD DVD, all of 5-6 spots) for it either.

It's like the movie wasn't even released on HD DVD. Will check Best Buy tomorrow probably and see if it was a no-show there too.

i get where you are coming from, but I'd like to know why blu-ray lost its endcap, if wal-mart is still getting the new hd dvds or if its selling off its old stock still, and i was just curious about the A2.

its obviously not too off-topic otherwise it would have been moved by now.

I find it amusing that so many of you actually hold hatred towards Toshiba and HD-DVD. Do you realize how ridiculous that is?

Seriously, there are things to get passionate and worked up about. This really should not be one of them.

But to each his own, I guess.

Thumbs down

They have moved the blu ray disc to an isle instead of right in front of the entrance to the music/ video section of wal mart. I think its a dumb move by wal mart. Best Buy has one full isle dedicated to blu ray only . Now thats a great move by best buys.

Those people, like myself, who know the history of Toshiba's shenanigans have reason to hate them. They fought Sony in the development of the original DVD spec. Sony made peace by bending over backwards and letting Toshiba have 95% of what they wanted, and also the lion's share of DVD royalties. Toshiba was also on the wrong side of the recordable DVD war. So whan I read that there were two competing HD formats and Toshiba and Sony were the main contenders, I wondered if Toshiba was going to have the worst format again and sure enough, they did. The history of the HD format war shows how much power and money Toshiba was wanting to grab AGAIN. They could have joined forces with Sony and Pioneer, but NOOOO...

Well..........so what?????

What do you care how Toshiba chooses to run their business? And it's not like Sony is exactly the poster child for being consumer-friendly either.

These are multi-billion dollar corporations. They're all run by greedy and corrupt people. They don't deserve your undying loyalty. None of them do, no matter how much you like the product they make.

Just got back from Wal-mart. They now have all the Blu-rays in an alarm activated case. Not those large single plastc kind but a large box that can hold 3 movies.

Best Buy caters to a higher income group then Wal-mart. Although sales of Blu-ray at WM have increased significantly, they will store sell more promotional/seasonal movies off of that endcap then they will HD.

The main purpose of that endcap was to inform customers that Wal-mart was carrying HD media. Now that many people know that, they can move it back into the regular aisle and expand in future as sales for Blu-ray continue to grow.

The selection at my local WM went down to about a half-dozen Blu-rays and 3 HD-DVDs, around the holidays there were ~50 total titles. Looks like it's Amazon for me from now on.

So what? I, and most OTHER people here, would rather have a superior product than an inferior one. And Toshiba's refusal to join Sony and Pioneer in the development of Blu-ray started a costly format war that limited the choices people had. Not all movies were available in both formats. In addition, many people wasted money on machines that are now obsolete. And worse yet, because of Toshiba, MANY buyers have NOT bought either format yet waiting to see who would win. THAT HAS SLOWED DOWN THE ACCEPTANCE OF ANY HD FORMAT. Do you get it? DVD disc and player prices came down as more and more people bought into it. So Blu-ray players and discs might be cheaper now had there NOT been a format war over the last two years.

That is what sets Toshiba apart from Sony. And Blu-ray isn't just Sony anyway, so Sony's business practices have little to do with this argument. I never bought a Betamax machine either. Sony picked the right one this time. Toshiba, however, has continued their practice of supporting inferior formats (DVD-R vs DVD+R for instance) and so I dislike them intensely. Any time they come up with something, I am going to assume first that it is trash.

That is very small-minded of you.

Just because HD-DVD lost the format war does not mean it was "inferior". If it was truly inferior, then so many people wouldn't have waited to see who won.

I have watched several movies that were released on both BR and HD-DVD. There is no difference. Neither product was markedly superior to the other. You're delusional if you think otherwise.

I have a love-hate relationship with Wal-Mart. It's pretty hard not to appreciate their prices and the wide variety of goods.

If I need a gallon of milk, some AA batteries, an oil filter, a birthday card for the wife, some new socks, a haircut, and a Subway sandwich, I can go to Wal-Mart and get everything right there.

Of course, the stores tend to be dirty, the employees have bad attitudes (although you can hardly blame them from the way they are treated) and their business practices are sketchy at best.
