Default HELP! Hooked BluRay to TV - but no picture???

I used HDMI cable to connect my new BluyRay HDMI port to the HDMI port on my Comcast cable box (which is connected to my HDTV by component cable). I wonder if this is why I am not getting any picture on my TV. (I can't connect BluRay directly to my DDTV becasue the TV has no HDMI port.)

Do you think connecting BluRay to the cable box just doesn't work?

I don't own a Comcast box, but I am guessing that the HDMI slot on that is an output. Does your TV have an HDMI input, or is that why you were trying to throughput via your cable box?

I have never personally connected it through a cable box. that being said, I dont quite know what you are doing wrong unless you are plugging your HDMI cable in a wrong spot. (possibly the "output" instead of "input")

if your tv doesnt have an HDMI input, I have a hard time believing that it is a 1080p television. That being said, they have cables that can give you a decent signal (720p - 1080i) that has HDMI on one end and a Dvi on the other...

good luck!

I don't think it would work unless your comcast cable box would be able to convert a digital signal (HDMI) to an analog signal (component).

if you have no receiver w/HDMI
you need to run your comcast to the TV
and the Blue Ray to the TV

because you have only one input..

you need a multiport switch

if you dont have an HDMI source into your tv, then its only a 720p TV (if that), and theres no point in using an HDMI wire.

You should post either your TV's model # or at least describe it. If its an HDTV, flat panel or projection, you'll just have to use component wires into the TV. If you only have 1 component input into your TV then you can:

A. get a multi-switch
B. go surround sound w/ a video switching receiver

go with option B if you dont already have surround sound. Watching blu ray without a 5.1 sound system is like keeping your new Ferrari in the garage all day.

Default Problem Solved - Thank You! ("blu-ray To Tv, But No Picture")

Thanks for inputl I solved my problem by connecting Blu-Ray to TV directly using component cables (which up until now had connected the TV to a DVD recorder/player). Then I reconnected the DVD recorder/player to the TV using S-video cable. The DVD rcorder/player records only analog signals, so there was no reduction in playback image quality or sound.

After hours of struggle I posted my problem in this forum -- and your responses to my call for help led me pretty quickly in the right direction -- and I thank you-all hugely for that!!!

You might want to consider getting an optical cable for sound..

whoa.... so you're not using the HDMI now? I'd START by going Blu-Ray TO T.V. with HDMI, and figure out how you want to connect the cable-box from there......... HDMI to carry the video signal from the Blu-Ray is the most important part.

Looks like his/her TV hasn't got HDMI input.
