I just got the latest issue of Game Informer, April 2007.
Being that it's the April issue I have to halfway wonder if this is an April Fools Joke, but basically they have a two page spread "confirming" the release of this new Xbox by the end of April. It's a black Xbox 360 with HDMI and a 120 gig hard drive. I was pleasantly surprised with how critical of MS this issue was in general, on several points. First they start right in the editorial with how dollars for MS points is just like the old day carnie scams. I couldn't agree with them more. Just make it all straight up cash where people can use their credit cards to buy what they want and don't want. They also had another article in there where an MS person was fudging on the point of how MS is restricting a lot of potential free content that could be over Live because, of course, they want to bleed customers for as much money as they can. Anyways, it's pages 18 and 19 of the new April 2007 issue of Game Informer. Here's one item from the story that I couldn't believe I actually saw. An MS employee pretty much admitting that they really aren't that confident in HD-DVD at all. Quote:
I also couldn't agree more with this editorial comment that was attached to this story: Quote:

I'm going to have to also agree with kiddtigger, right now I like more Xbox 360 games than Playstation 3 games. Before I get slam by comments I said right now. RFOM is currently the only game I might buy for the PS3 right now. I’ll find out in April when I try it out when I visit my friends. Motorstorm looks great, but not my type of game, plus I don’t care for racing and sports games. 360 vs. PS3 Oblivion games (Xbox 360 wins this round)- I already have it for the 360. True PS3 Oblivion looks a little better, load time is little bit faster, but there’s nothing that would make me buy it again. Knights of the nine is included with PS3, but I already downloaded that and 7 other add-ons, plus I’ll be downloading the next add on when it’s release. Right nowBethesda Softworks isn’t even sure if they’re going to release these downloads for the PS3. Menu systems, I like Xbox 360 a little be more, plus I like the Xbox 360 achievements System- Hands down the PS3 is the best system out there + it’s a blu-ray Player you can’t beat that. When Home comes out it we make the system that much better. ![]() As for this New Xbox 360, there’s nothing that really impress me about it. Since some games have gone multi-platform, I been hearing a few people say how many dvds will it take to play that game on Xbox 360. I know back during PS1 days FFVII had 3 disc, other games had 4 disc, but since games went to DVD disc. I personally haven’t bought a game that was on more then one. Are there currently any games that take more than one DVD to play? ![]() Last edited by MasterXeus; 03-26-2007 at 04:42 PM. |

I find it very amusing that HDMI now matters, when before M$ was practically saying it was irrelevant, cables were too expensive, etc. I think someone on this forum actually posted a link (a while back) to the official Xbox360 site where M$ was basically saying HDMI was unnecessary.

Someone needs to bring this up to Amir in the insiders thread and ask him why even MS isn't fully behind HD-DVD!!!!

So I'd wait until next year since they don't seem to be very good at predicting what's coming...instead expecting customers to pay all over again. How convenient for their bottom line and not yours. Just to make sure.. 1. they don't put a blu-ray drive into it in another 18 mths. 2. they don't have the same reliability problems as the current 360's..it's new technology and they had reliability problems even with that "proven" last gen technology. Not exactly a confidence builder. Really nothing to lose by waiting. If you really have to have all the next gen stuff then just buy a PS3 and save all the trouble anyways. Why take the chance you'll get another 360 dud as so many people have or your looking at the prospect of yet another upgrade a year from now? That's just embarrassing...especially if you recommend it to friends and family and they get stiffed as well. If there was no competition and you had no choice it's one thing but that's not the case. Sony took the PR hit .. but did what was in the best long term interest of their customers. Give credit where credit is due. M$ wants to turn it into a PC with constant hardware upgrades so the old hardware gets left behind and forces people to upgrade sooner than they otherwise would need to. No thanks. |

Haha, looks like the early adopters are screwed EVEN MORE when they realize that MS won't be releasing an HDMI adaptor for existing consoles :P
Talk about the kind of "care" MS gives to its buyers. ![]() |

i don't know a 1080p set that does it over component and vga connections are so few. and even with a vga connection, it won't work with protected content

How does Image Constraint Token affect all those HD-DVD add-ons - HDMI or not?
