Sounds like Radagast The Brown will be the best character in the film. We need a solo movie!

I read that the hobbit does include more humor then the original lotr books. that would make sense.

Umm, he was mentioned by name in The Hobbit. Gandalf mentioned him when meeting Beorn. True, his character is not big in the storyline, but this is where PJ is using some of his artisitic license to expand on a character. I personally feel that PJ will expand on Radagast's character to show/illustrate the evil that is growing in Mirkwood since his character is closely tied to the forest.

lol I've never been nor will I ever go to a 3d movie of any kind (and I own a 3d tv). I don't feel like messing up my eyes, and I was simply speaking on the effect Tvs get when they are fed it which is in-fact known as the soap opera effect. Maybe you don't have a tv that can do it, but if you've ever seen it most people don't care for it.

Oh and fyi platform 2c in the uk is a 3d soap opera

.. I may have to check that out. Only out of morbid curiosity.

I am not a fan of 3D either, but I am curious to see what 48FPS can do for 3D.

I stand corrected, Beorn gives him a name check and mentions his reputation, now i recall. But the need for an additional comic character outside of Bombur (who i think is great) really isn't required. If the rest of the book is a fairly faithfull adaptation then i can live with that. The dailogue between the Trolls and also Bilbo during Roast Mutton shouldn't be touched with a barge-pole! Great stuff!

My sentiments exactly. I really don't like 3D, at all, and unless I don't have the option (which occasionally I don't), I won't watch a film in 3D.

Having said all of that, I have already purchased my tickets to see The Hobbit in 48FPS 3D on opening day...just to check it out.

Out of morbid curiosity.

On another note I don't know why any of you give a rats a about what other people think of the film. Isint that effecting your expectations and influencing your viewing of the film? I don't see how it can't be doing that one way or the other.

I have avoided all that garbage hyperbole and even trailers/clips/tv spots as to keep my expat actions as level as possable to have the cleanest read on the film possible.

Just ignore it all and let the film stand on its own merits.

I just finished reading an interview with Peter Jackson in the Rolling Stone special edition on The Hobbit, and there were some interesting tidbits. Jackson said:

"We want to make a film that tells a story and has a little more depth to it than what Tolkien was after when he wrote the book... We haven't been indulgent in the way we've made these movies. We simply used the narrative that Tolkien laid out."

So he is starting with a clean slate and has had almost a decade since the last Lord of the Rings movie for consideration. Hopefully, lessons learned will be applied to this production, and he will avoid some of the pitfalls of the LotR films, such as:

- Oversensationalism; stumbling, falling, and perpetually crying hobbits (or other characters for that matter)

- Unnecessary plot diversions (pointless side trip to Osgiliath, etc.)

- Strange dialog (e.g. Theoden telling Gimli that he knows how to "defend his keep")

- On (rare) occasion, rinky-dink special effects, such as the battle between the Riders of Rohan with 20(?) wargs.

- Incredible character role-reversals, e.g. Faramir, or questionable use of characters (e.g. Fatty Bolger)

- Unnecessary or weird scenes; e.g. Eowyn making soup, Witch-king breaking Gandalf's staff

- Bizarre plot elements; e.g. Arwen's fate tied to the Ring

- etc.

But so far, the very few reviews I have seen have been very good, so here we go!

I'm not really keen for this movie at all, but I've bought myself a ticket for December 17 (earliest date I had time for it) in 3D and 48FPS.

weird. None of these things bothered me at all personally. Well, the Witch King breaking Gandalfs staff was pretty damn weird. Other than that....

Have very little faith that Jackson won't do EXACTLY has you described here in the Hobbit trilogy.

The fact that it's a TRILOGY is the first warning sign, along with the fact that we'll be getting extended cuts of these films at later dates.

Again, indulgent. It all begin with the Two Towers and he hasn't let up since...

Well, it's a fairly simple story about reclaiming a treasure from a dragon, and we're getting a near three-hour film about just walking to the dragon.

Im not sure if some have been living under a rock, but I will say this for the upteenth time.

It includes the Apendices material as well as events that went on during the hobbit storyline but wasnt covered in the book. For instance the prologue will show the Battle of Azanulbizar and the white council stuff will be included and a bunch of other stuff. These films arent just the Hobbit storyline. So this isnt just a film of three hours of walking to a dragon. It is much more than that, and it is much more than the Hobbit narrative.
