Yes, I do know that…as that… is rather rudimentary . In fact, I believe with a high degree of certainty that the reason why David had to “drag the colour position slightly closer towards red” in his fine review of your TV here…
http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/news/samsu...ge=Calibration

was because of too much cyan in your TV’s green phosphors, as you might know. To further elaborate, your TV appears to have superb black levels and I was wondering if this is at the expense of brightness, more so than other plasmas on the market?

I’m guessing that its brightness is quite lacking as compared to something like an LCD. I don’t even think you can compete in that department with those displays.

The black levels on the Samsung i have the 59" version as opposed to the 51" version in the review are slightly better, but still not as good as this years Panasonic Plasma's.
Brightness levels as you say can not compete with LCD but everything else is in most cases way ahead on Plasma screens.

Penton Man, using Contrast at 82 and Cell Light 16 it is pushing out 85cd/m2 not sure about the conversion to ftl. I could go much brighter but this suits my viewing environment.

Edit:
That's 25 ftl on my settings.

Who would want to view a film in anything other than complete darkness? TV is one thing, but if I'm watching a Blu-ray on my Panasonic Plasma, then only the dark will do.

Nearly everybody who comes round my house to watch a film. Having a light or a window open on while watching a film bugs me but I think people like us are the minority.

I usually watch most of my movies in a darkened room, however it is recommended some ambient lighting is used.

I was experiencing eye strain when I would watch Blu-rays in complete darkness. Then I read that having a backlight decreases eye strain, so I have one of those now. If I didn't have that problem, I would watch in darkness, it's more cinematic obviously.

Sorry to drag this thread up again but i have just finished watching the latest episode in the UK of the Walking Dead, and noticed something.............try watching the night time scenes or in the prison...........does it remind you of a very similar look to NOTLD?

It's been suggested earlier in the thread that the color change could have been an attempt to give it a more modern horror movie look.

love the look of Walking Dead............NOTLD 1990 seems to just work looking like this don't you think.

PS
Making the odd stupid comment like you do surely deserves some sort of quantification which up until now you have provided none. LOL

The Walking Dead is substantially brighter and less blue than the botched NOTLD90 Bluray. A turd is a turd, no matter how much you want it to be otherwise.

I'd rather watch the holiday fireplace channel for 90 minutes than the NOTLD90 Blu.

Hello Crom1, yes the daytime scenes are brighter. I was talking about the night time and scenes set in the prison are almost exactly the same.

Yes, but I think that saying that because one film/TV series looks a certain way that every film of the same ilk ever made should look exactly the same is a bit erroneous. Personally, I think every film has its own unique look and that look should be preserved - that's what distinguishes it from everything else. NOTLD '90 stood out because a lot of the horror happens in bright sunlight, that's what sets it apart. To then go and give it a generic horror film look does it a great disservice IMO.
