I don't really rely on critics' or other people's opinions on films. I know this movie has been a bit of a mixed bag "critically", but that didn't matter to me, I loved it

Just got back. Wow.

Just wanted to say that the media have blown the entire 48fps thing way out of proportion.

It looked stunning.

Forget Avatar 3D as the future of cinema, 48fps is the future of cinema.

I feel like the reviewers who complained about it are the same ilk who opposed the transition from DVD to Blu-Ray, or Black/White to Colour.

Just a bunch of old fuddy-duddies who like to whinge about change.

The nonsense about the sets, costumes, etc., looking fake are complete tosh.

It takes you roughly five minutes to adjust to the extra frames (as we are unaccustomed to it) but then it's fine. Everything looks smooth and sharp. It isn't distracting at all and looks perfectly natural. I absolutely loved it.

The film itself way exceeded my expectations too, can't wait for the Extended version.

Do yourself a favour and see the film in the way it was conceived and intended to be seen in.

I agree with every single word! The Hobbit 48FPS 3D is a stunning experience and a milestone for movie presentation.

Well, I do remember a similar situation with the release of The Phantom Menace. Critics mostly blasted it while fans mostly embraced it. These movies have a strong fan base and I'm sure a lot of them are posting on twitter and IMBD. I have not seen the movie but I'm sure most fans will be pleased. The average moviegoer...maybe not so much. That's the drift I'm getting...

You can see it in IMAX 3D in 48fps. That's how I plan to see it. My local theater has 2D 24fps, RealD 3D 48fps, and IMAX 3D 48fps. From everything I've read, the best version is IMAX 3D 48fps.

I posted this in here a while back:

IMAX: Two stereoscopic projectors, larger curved screen, brighter image, more lifelike 3D, minimized ghosting, improved signal to noise performance, uncompressed lossless HD audio, must meet standards for audio and image quality, IMAX linear polarization has better extinction ratio(seperation?).

RealD: Circular polarization = You can tilt your head sideways with less crosstalk.

Here are some links that I found about it for anyone interested:

http://asia.cnet.com/an-overview-rea...d-62208932.htm

http://www.avsforum.com/t/1347547/imax-3d-vs-reald-3d

The bottom two are just comparing IMAX 3D and RealD 3D in general, but the top one discusses HFR.

Go watch it in 48fps 3D. If you can, watch it with Dolby Atmos as well.
This film wasn't filmed in IMAX anyway. So don't waste your money.

Speaking of which, is it possible to watch this film in HFR 48FPS 3D and Dolby Atmos in one screening?

In what universe did the Star Wars fanbase like The Phantom Menace?

The fact that people went and saw it and the other two prequels a gazillion times each show that most people enjoyed them. The complainers (which I am a member sometimes) seem to be in the minority but post more online. Same with the special editions of the trilogy. The internet is here to ***** not praise.

Okay, just saw it. The film itself was more or less what I had expected. It was really good, but not quite up there with the original trilogy. It's not a new Episode I, that's for sure.

I saw it in 48 FPS, and at first I was completely taken out of it. I did adjust quite quickly, and the experience became a whole lot more enjoyable after that. The technique works well enough. Especially the action scenes felt a lot more dynamic and lively (compaing to previous films, have only seen The Hobbit in 48 FPS so far), and the slow motion sequences got a dreamlike, surreal quality to them. The CGI meshed really well with this as well, with the standout being Gollum. The vista shots worked beautifully as well. There were times though when I couldn't shake the feeling that I was watching a daytime soap, although with much higher production values. But the fast tracking shots did make it look cheap at times, especially in the Shire sequences.

As a whole, I probably still prefer 24 FPS and I don't really see this as the future of cinema because of the huge divide it has created, just as 3D didn't become the next big thing either. I can see it being used in a couple of more films down the line, and I'll check out the sequels in 48 FPS as well as I did find the experience unique and special. It was better then I thought it would be, and technical advancements are always intriguing, but there's still something beautiful with 24 FPS that this just cannot match. If it's my brain teling me that it's how film is "supposed" to look or not, I won't delve any deeper into, I'm simply stating my preferences...

Yea that's what I am doing also.

I will try and catch a regular early 2D version and hope that it's not crowded. Otherwise then I will try the early Sunday showing as I find that its not a real popular time for most people to go to the movies.

Of course all these mixed reviews has me a bit perplexed-

I ask that the review on the website be updated to SIR Peter Jackson. Sort of a big deal.

Haven't read the book, but
[Show spoiler]the dwarves escape from the goblin mine and fight the orc who lost his hand. It's a losing battle but Gandalf calls for big birds that fly them off to safety. They end up on a rock seeing the home of the dwarves in the distance. You then see Smaug awaken, you only see his eye, buried in a mountain of gold.

I'll definitely see this again at least one more time.
