Just got back. Wow.
Just wanted to say that the media have blown the entire 48fps thing way out of proportion. It looked stunning. Forget Avatar 3D as the future of cinema, 48fps is the future of cinema. I feel like the reviewers who complained about it are the same ilk who opposed the transition from DVD to Blu-Ray, or Black/White to Colour. Just a bunch of old fuddy-duddies who like to whinge about change. The nonsense about the sets, costumes, etc., looking fake are complete tosh. It takes you roughly five minutes to adjust to the extra frames (as we are unaccustomed to it) but then it's fine. Everything looks smooth and sharp. It isn't distracting at all and looks perfectly natural. I absolutely loved it. The film itself way exceeded my expectations too, can't wait for the Extended version. Do yourself a favour and see the film in the way it was conceived and intended to be seen in. |

Well, I do remember a similar situation with the release of The Phantom Menace. Critics mostly blasted it while fans mostly embraced it. These movies have a strong fan base and I'm sure a lot of them are posting on twitter and IMBD. I have not seen the movie but I'm sure most fans will be pleased. The average moviegoer...maybe not so much. That's the drift I'm getting...

This film wasn't filmed in IMAX anyway. So don't waste your money. Speaking of which, is it possible to watch this film in HFR 48FPS 3D and Dolby Atmos in one screening? |

The fact that people went and saw it and the other two prequels a gazillion times each show that most people enjoyed them. The complainers (which I am a member sometimes) seem to be in the minority but post more online. Same with the special editions of the trilogy. The internet is here to ***** not praise.

Okay, just saw it. The film itself was more or less what I had expected. It was really good, but not quite up there with the original trilogy. It's not a new Episode I, that's for sure.
I saw it in 48 FPS, and at first I was completely taken out of it. I did adjust quite quickly, and the experience became a whole lot more enjoyable after that. The technique works well enough. Especially the action scenes felt a lot more dynamic and lively (compaing to previous films, have only seen The Hobbit in 48 FPS so far), and the slow motion sequences got a dreamlike, surreal quality to them. The CGI meshed really well with this as well, with the standout being Gollum. The vista shots worked beautifully as well. There were times though when I couldn't shake the feeling that I was watching a daytime soap, although with much higher production values. But the fast tracking shots did make it look cheap at times, especially in the Shire sequences. As a whole, I probably still prefer 24 FPS and I don't really see this as the future of cinema because of the huge divide it has created, just as 3D didn't become the next big thing either. I can see it being used in a couple of more films down the line, and I'll check out the sequels in 48 FPS as well as I did find the experience unique and special. It was better then I thought it would be, and technical advancements are always intriguing, but there's still something beautiful with 24 FPS that this just cannot match. If it's my brain teling me that it's how film is "supposed" to look or not, I won't delve any deeper into, I'm simply stating my preferences... |

Yea that's what I am doing also. I will try and catch a regular early 2D version and hope that it's not crowded. Otherwise then I will try the early Sunday showing as I find that its not a real popular time for most people to go to the movies. Quote:
