But with Sanity they have all their's open as they take the discs out before putting it on the shelves.
I saw their price, which is good, but saw that they were all opened and thought "Nah" then went to Big W and got one that's sealed so I have the pleasure in opening it. |

Ordinarily I won't buy anything from a Sanity store either for the same reason. If all the old Virgin music sections in Myer stores years ago didn't do this then I would have shopped there, I'm sure they lost plenty of other sales from people who felt the same. If a retailer removes the plastic seal, puts the empty case on the shelves and stores the discs behind the counter, then I view that as the retailer opting for the cheap and easy way out in regards to security, and I won't spend my money there if they can't spend the money on implementing a proper security system where the discs aren't handled by staff. At the time I wasn't intending on buying it because of the digibook format, which I'm not a particular fan of, but relented because it is a "must have" movie.

Well, I finally got home last night and had to watch Jaws when I was tucked up in bed and the picture is absolutely pristine.
I love how they are restoring films now to their original glory, so long as they don't go too far with restorations (are you listening George Lucas???). |

You all may be interested in knowing this but I just found the digibook version of Jaws at Woolworths for only $15.92.
If you have held off getting this movie until now, waiting for the standard release to become available, now is a good time to get it especially at this price. I just may get this then using the original docket return it back to where I got it from the first time. |

Hi guys,
First post. I picked up the Digibook copy of Jaws from JB and found that the j-card was sticky-taped onto the front of the Digibook. When I removed the J-card, it the sticky-tape had damaged a bit of the Digibook. I returned it to JB for a second copy, and this one had the same problem. I opened 3 different copies in the store and they all had the same problem to some degree. Has anyone had any luck getting one without getting any damage on the front from the tape? Really pissed off with this. |

Mine didn't have that problem, but I bought it in the first week of release. I'm wondering if the adhesive has got a bit tacky since it was released.
Things like eucalptus oil is good for getting sticky residue off, but I'd be cautious here because it might be absorbed by the cover and leave an oily stain instead. I've heard slowly peeling things like this while pointing a hair dryer at the spot where the tape and cover meet can help get it off without damaging the surface, because it partially melts and loosens the adhesive. But not all adhesive is the same. |

It's not actually glue residue that's left behind, but what happens is the sticky tape actually removes a bit of the matte finish from the cover. If you look closely at it, it kinda looks like there is still tape there but it's infact the clear coating removed from the cover. One of the copies I opened looked quite bad and had actually bubbled up where the tape was stuck. Going to try my luck with another copy from a different store over the weekend. If that has the same problem then I give up.
The chick at the counter told me a few people had returned their copies for the same reason, so I know I'm not the only one. Surprised no one here has had the same problem. This is my first digibook, so not a pleasant experience. I've also just started collecting steelbooks too and each one I've received has had some sort of defect, either a small dent, a scratch or paint chip. Not having the best luck...starting to think maybe I should just stick to regular amaray releases, less frustrating and cases are easily replaceable lol. |

Just watched the Blu-Ray again last night just because I felt like watching this classic once more this time with the orignal mono mix. Does anyone think that in terms of PQ that the third act of the 3 guys on the boat hunting down the shark, shines the best? I mean the bold deep colours and textures of the boat interior, the yellow vivid barrels, the fine detail of the water, the several medium shots and close-ups etc. The third act is demo material stuff that looks consistency more pleasing then everything previous in the film (which still looked great, but not quite as stunning.)
Does anyone see what I mean? |
