I just noticed my bd player says dts-hd digital OUT on the front of it (sony s500) could that be the problem with the dts-hd?

This might be something that requires a firmware update of your s500.

I have a Panny BD30 and it would not handle TrueHD off of RE:extinction until the latest firmware update.

If they haven't released an update in a while, I would pressure Sony

Sarge,

I think I have the answer. Unfortunately it's only an answer and not a fix to the problem. When I was reading your original post I thought I remembered that the S500 did not decode DTS-HD MA. I checked out the specs on it here (See "Players" at the top of this page) and sure enough it says no DTS-HD MA decoding. It also says that this player is not capable of bitstreaming it either. Assuming that info is correct, the problem is the BDP-S500

Thanks for the bad news, is there any bd players that decode DTS-HD MA? I looked in the players section and I didn't see any?

I don't think any decode them yet, but the panny bd30 bitstreams all and the onkyo can decode them for you. Easy fix! I had the same issues but when I got the panny it was pure bliss.
