I think it can be justified by comparing it to the number of people that also want a diamond-encrusted, spun gold thread, woven Banana Hammock with matching nipple clamps.

There's not a huge market for those, so for the few that want them - not only is there a short supply, but those that actually WANT one are going to have to pay for the incredibly high production costs associated with their manufacture. Do you know how many golden geese have to be slaughtered to keep up with the demand for gold thread? Goose food ain't cheap ya' know...
