Running back Chris Rainey, who was a fifth round pick in last year's draft, was arrested for slapping his girlfriend and has been cut by the Steelers. Rainey was previously arrested in 2010 for felony stalking of an ex-girlfriend and was cited last month for entering a casino, which was a crime because Rainey had voluntarily signed himself onto a list that banned him from casinos. Rainey was the Steelers leading kick returner last season and had 2 rushing touchdowns on offense.

Would love for us to get McClain and Rainey

Rainey shouldn't have to ask twice for his sandwich.

Jacksonville Jaguars ‏@jaguars
Caldwell: I can't imagine a scenario where Tim Tebow would be Jacksonville Jaguar.
If Caldwell hasn't been informed that he has to bring Tebow in then I think it's even more likely that he brings in Greg Roman as his head coach and acquires Alex Smith as his starting quarterback.

I wonder if the Patriots would consider bringing in Tebow. Belichick liked him going into the draft (and likes Florida/Urban Meyer's players in general) and Josh McDaniels was the one that drafted Tebow so I could see them bringing him in and finding a non-quarterback role for him. The biggest reason I could potentially see the Patriots passing on Tebow would be that they wouldn't want the circus that surrounds him. In addition Tebow may still want to go somewhere that he could be a QB and New England definitely isn't that place.

Can't see Tebow in New England. Belichick doesn't want the circus that surrounds him.

Our owner Kahn could of fired Mularkey at the same time he got rid of Gene Smith, but there was an article out there that Khan let Caldwell make the coaching decision with Malarkey. Therefore I think he's going to dismiss bringing in Tebow and we could get Alex Smith if he becomes available. That I'm hoping for, but then plenty of people here in Jacksonville will be upset because we're not going after Tebow and will miss another oppurtunity bringing him here.

still a little early on him, maybe he can be good with a real QB
Blackmon struggled a lot, but that's mostly when Gabbert was under center. He played fairly well when Henne started because Henne has a softer touch than Gabbert so Blackmon was able to make bigger plays down the stretch of the season so he's got game, but he needs a QB that can play consistent football.

Coach Jim Harbaugh announced that David Akers will kick for the 49ers in Saturday's Divisional round game versus the Packers.

Although Billy Cundiff lost the kicking competition, he will remain on the roster as insurance. Harbaugh said Akers gives the 49ers the "best chance to win," which doesn't say much for Cundiff.

I don't understand how Harbugh didn't get this kicking problem solved weeks ago. It's been evident for much of the season that David Akers isn't right, and whether it's mental or physical you shouldn't enter the playoffs with a kicker that isn't making kicks. There are plenty of kickers out there that they could have replaced Akers with.

On the same note, the team the 49ers are playing has major kicking problems of their own, so maybe it will even out. Mason Crosby has been dreadful this year but for some reason the Packers have stuck by him.

McCarthy & Thompson stuck by their man....whether that was smart or not....we'll see.

in Crosby's defense, the majority of his misses have been from 50+....and eventually his confidence was shaken so much he was starting to push/pull kicks less than 40 yards.

The more I read about it, I think Buffalo is going to take either the best defensive player available at #8 or Ryan Nassib. I'm sure we'd love to wait until the second round with Nassib, but that is too risky with how high teams reach on quarterbacks. I wouldn't be surprised to see us move down a few spots in the first round either.

Some Jags coach info

Quote:

The Jaguars have reportedly requested permission to interview Rams OC Brian Schottenheimer for their head-coaching vacancy.

Schottenheimer interviewed with former Jags GM Gene Smith last January before Mike Mularkey was chosen. He has a connection to new GM David Caldwell through Rams GM Les Snead, as the two execs worked together in the Falcons front office for years. Schottenheimer would seem to be an uninspired choice. His offenses in New York and St. Louis have been unimaginative. One person who worked with Schottenheimer did tell NFL Network's Ian Rapoport that he would be a better head coach than coordinator.

It's really sad looking at the draft projections and realizing just how little talent is going to be there for 2013. The Jags finally end up getting a top-3 pick and considering Geno Smith is probably going to KC there isn't a QB worth taking at #2 overall. It'll probably be either Star Lotulelei (Utah) or Jarvis Jones (Georgia).

Most recent mock drafts I'm seeing have Manti T'eo going #8 to Buffalo.

I think with the Marrone and Hackett connections, Nassib is going to be a strong consideration with our first pick. He's supposedly one of the guys flying up draft boards, and probably won't be there with our second round pick. He's a good looking kid with the strong arm and knowledge of the offense, but his talent isn't worthy of #8. But as it is with quarterbacks, you oftentimes have to overdraft, so I wouldn't be upset at all if we took him.

Browns Hired someone not named Ken Wisenhunt

Quote:
Browns hired Rob Chudzinski as head coach.

Chudzinski, 44, spent the last two seasons as Carolina's offensive coordinator. He has ties to Cleveland already as he was the Browns' offensive coordinator from 2007-2008 when he somehow managed to turn Derek Anderson into a Pro Bowl quarterback. Chud will bring along with him a vertical, aggressive passing attack that likes to feature the tight end. Sources are already saying that Norv Turner, whom Chudzinski worked under as tight ends coach in San Diego, is likely to accompany him as the team's offensive coordinator. Chudzinski had three head coaching interviews last offseason before ultimately returning to the Panthers. He is an Ohio native.
