Hi, which retailer are you using to try and download it?

VUDU? Flixster? CinemaNow?

I just downloaded it via Flixster on iOS with no problem... please post some more details!

I think people based those expectations on TDK getting 8 nominations (post Heath Ledger's death?). Certainly, as Mavrick suggested in the TDK Mega thread : "At least a nomination in one of the technical categories?" - not that the haters would agree with that.

Well, I will go on record saying that TDKR was my second favourite film of the year (right behind The Avengers), and a prized addition to my movie library. I found the story to be a fantastic adaptation of the Knight Fall saga for Nolan's universe, and can nitpick just as many "plot holes" from TDK (if not more).

As for the snub by the vaunted Academy, to me it has long ceased to be relevant, and is little more than an exclusive club for elite film snobs who think entirely too much of themselves.

Not surprised. I am surprised Wolski didn't get a nomination for Prometheus though.

Nothing.

Tdkr brought nothing new to the table (oh, wait, more imax) and it was largely seen as something that failed to live up to its predecessors, even if only barely.

If it had received any nominations everyone would have been saying they were just honoring the trilogy or making up for past "snubs" anyway. Does anyone want that? No.

Only the hardest of the die-hard nolanites would say that anyone involved in this movie was doing their best work. That's why it was shut out at the oscars.

Hans Zimmer was ripped for not getting a best score nomination!

In your opinion, yes. In the opinion of the Academy, not so much.
So what were the specific categories and films that weren't as deserving, as this one, in your opinion?

So you're saying the Academy "planned" (your word) this to fuel trolls and haters?

Ever think the voters weren't keen to vote for the same people basically doing the same work with little variation for the 3rd time in 7 years? Again, it brought nothing knew to the table. If Nolan and his crew kept pumping out Batman movies ever 3-4 years Bond style would you expect AMPAS to keep throwing technical nominations their way as long as they maintained a consistent level of quality? Obviously not.

I wasn't saying you thought the Academy would care about trolls. My point was, who care what tthey think? This movie will be just as awesome with, or without, any award shows recognition.

I don't know why people feel the need for movies to get awards or whatever else for them to like it. Not like they get any profits if it wins any awards.

Which technical ones do you feel it deserved one in?

I guess the production design has some impressive bits. The visual effects are pretty good but as good as the other nominees? Dunno about that. Cinematography is fine but the other nominees I saw were stronger IMO. Sound mixing? Horrid.

The visual effects were essentially seamless, considering you couldn't pick out a bad visual effects shot in the film. Hence, they did their job.

Definitely production design and cinematography. When your cinematography nominations don't include the Master, Prometheus, and the Dark Knight Rises, you're pretty much ****ed...

...don't mind Lincoln, but Django Unchained had better cinematography than the three films I mentioned above? **** no...

I don't know about that. I thought the whole football field explosion looked slightly off. Not horrible, but I've seen better.

I’d like to add a timely aside about Nolan: I recall emerging from a summer IMAX preview screening of The Dark Knight Rises feeling confident the film and its maker would be in the center of the Oscar conversation, for completing his trilogy as strongly as Jackson did The Lord Of The Rings. All of that was shattered by the violence in an Aurora, Colorado midnight screening days later, which stamped The Dark Knight Rises in a completely unexpected context. In the face of that, Nolan issued a heartfelt statement that was hailed by numerous filmmakers I’d spoken to as mirroring exactly the way they felt. Nolan has not mentioned the tragedy since, and while Warner Bros tried to get voters to remember the film, Nolan took a low-key approach to Oscar season that speaks to his classiness, self-awareness and understanding that an awards season snub was by far the least important bad thing that happened in the wake of his exceptional film’s opening.
