I can't believe Sam Rockwell didn't get a best supporting actor nomination for Seven Psychopaths. It was by far my favorite role of 2012.

I hate when certain movies get nominated for categories they have no business being nominated for because of hype. Lincoln doesn't need to be nominated for editing if End of Watch isn't.

I know. It's too bad Academy members think DeNiro and Arkin were more memorable and outstanding than Rockwell. Truly is baffling. Those two spots should have been filled by him and DiCaprio.

It's all political nonsense anyway, Rockwell could have just turned down the wrong project 10 years ago and now he's on someone's shit list. I thought Rockwell was easily one of the five best performances I saw this year. I'm happy that Silver Linings is getting it's due, though. I really liked it.

Oscars were more meaningful when like 20 movies came out every year and not over 9000.

If Phoenix can slam the Academy and still get a nom this notion of being blacklisted is just an Internet myth.

Well, on second thought, I'll concede it was a combination of the two:
After Crash vs. Brokeback Mountain (oh, it started a LOT earlier than '08), the general feeling on Monday morning was "Why don't real movies get nominated anymore?"
And then, after a lot of fanboys wondered why Best Picture for Dark Knight didn't leech off of Dead Heath's BSA nomination, there was the disgruntled feeling of "This sucks, Golden Globes would give Dark Knight Best Picture! "
To which the usual response was "....That's a compliment?? ", but it did start getting a few Oscar ratings analysts jealous of why the GG's Best Comedy & Musical category had so much more of the mainstream box office fan favorites.

...And THAT'S when the diehard obsessed Pixar voters snuck in the back door, and threw in a few very easily persuadable suggestions about what particular populist box office favorites would get nice ratings in the Picture lineups.
They. Don't. Give. UP.

I think that's actually a good tactic to get nominated. You slam the politics of the Academy Awards, and you get nominated to shut people up about politicking. Obviously it helps if your performance is great too.

You'll be surprise that, some actors and actresses really don't care if they never get nominated for an Academy or a Golden Globe Award! They just love the art, and enjoy their craft of making movies, whether they get nominated or not because they're still getting their salary, with or without a Academy Award, and many celebrities don't even attend Award shows. The majority of the stars who do attend all the award shows, only go for the after party, to get the free food and drinks.

100% true right here. I'm sure online people care more about the nominations then the actual actors themselves.

hey, you never know. I can just imagine some actor or director going like what do you mean I wasn't nominated?! But that's highly unlikely seeing how everyone is a professional. And not some thug or anything without social skills of a job.

Nah, that's what The Academy told Ben Affleck to do...

Shame. Was pulling for him and the film as I thought it was great.

Ha, I agree. I was on Ben's side. I at least wanted to see him nominated, but it's alright, he'll get his gold one day. He's only made three films, and they were all great. Not to mention, the trophy he got for Good Will Hunting.

Good for the actors that don't care, more respect for them. But don't be so naive. So many actors are desperate for this, *cough* Melissa Leo *cough*.

And Anne Hathaway is the desperate one this year.

http://www.virginmedia.com/newsfeeds...athaway-oscar/

She lives for this shit. She wants it so bad.

And it's pretty obvious people like Tom Hooper were watching the announcements live expecting to hear his name called. Was probably super disappointed. Just watch that directors interview posted here to see how pompous that guy is. I know its sad, who cares right?

And take a look at Hilary Swank's filmography. That woman has her eye on oscar constantly. I've never seen so much oscar bait in one career.

Geez, when was the last time De Niro was nominated? Awakenings in 1990? Can't believe it's been so long ago

My predictions for the major Oscar categories are:

Best Picture - Lincoln
Best Director - Steven Spielberg
Best Actor - Daniel Day Lewis (Lincoln)
Best Actress - Jessica Chastain (Zero Dark Thirty)
Best Supporting Actor - Tommy Lee Jones (Lincoln)
Best Supporting Actress - Anne Hathaway (Les Miserables)

I really wouldn't be surprised if Rivas wins best actress. She gave the exact kind of performance the academy loves to vote for. I haven't seen zero dark thirty yet but Chastain seems to have transformed in it. It looks very good.

I get the feeling that Life of Pi will get best picture and Steven Spielberg will get best Director, or vice versa.
