I wouldn't worry too much about burned subs for the film... however the extras might be a different story. Then again, the extra features or on Youtube for all to see, so that isn't a big deal for me.

The French releases are more likely to have burnt in subtitles. None of the German releases I own or have owned in the past, have had burnt in subtitles. The menu screen tends to be in English too!

For what its worth the Koch Media DVD didn't have burned on subtitles. The only thing that bothered me slightly, was that you had to turn on the English track before starting up the film, otherwise it would go straight into the German dub.

Some play the trailers etc in German with no English track at all & you have to change the audio track for the main movie. It's like a lucky dip lol!

I'll remain optimistic about this... not matter how naively I seem at present .

I shall report back on this as soon as I get it (probably the middle of next week).

The last German BD I bought had non-English friendly startup trailers but the main menu gave the choice of English or German and once set to English you would never know it was not a native English release.

If it were a French release I would be more concerned but I have yet to find a German BD with forced subs.

According to a member in the German forums there are no burned in sub titles.

As for the PQ. At first I was a little concerned because the first few scenes of the movie are quite scratched and dirty...but then the PQ improves dramatically and the picture actually looks very, very good with plenty of fine grain and a consistantly high bitrate above 30 MBit/sec, at least for as long as I previewed the movie. Nothing looked waxy or anything which would lead me to believe that the movie was not filtered to oblivion.

I won't fully judge this release untill I've watched the movie from start to finish but I'm very pleased with what I've seen so far.

I was just about to post this! Things are looking very good as of now.

My order has already been shipped out from Amazon.de and the delivery estimate is Jan 23, though it might get here earlier than that (weather permitting).

yeah, just check out the German topic, it's pretty much answer all your questions

But I'll also say it here, the Koch release is absolutely worth it. Believe me, I was the last person to expect a lot but I was pleasantly surprised. Koch seem to have done a really good job this time (the same goes for Videodrome, btw).

Just out of curiosity, what are Koch like in general? The only release of theirs that I'm familiar with is the original Howard the Duck DVD. Are there any titles of theirs that I absolutely, positively must skip?

The Quiet Earth is supposed to be really bad, Futureworld is very hardly an improvement over the DVD and Koch's Scanners BD looks like a bad joke

http://caps-a-holic.com/hd_vergleich...ess=#vergleich

(that movie was released by a different label recently on BD though and it looks superb).

Don't really own many titles by them though. 'Super' looks OK, I guess but I did notice some compression probs here and there, no clue if the US BD looks the same or not. And like I said, Videodrome looks great and about the same as the Criterion BD, except for a slight difference in brightness.

also: Howard the Duck only costs 10.99€ on amazon.de right now which is a pretty good deal!

Enjoy!

I received mine yesterday but just glanced through some of the Chapters last night. I will watch it over the weekend.

The Special Features play in English with German subtitles which are removable & the audio automatically plays in English for the Main Movie. The menu screen is in German though!

I'm happy from what i've seen though!

Mine came today.

AVC image, track 1 is German DTS-MA 2.0, track 2 is English DTS-MA 2.0.

On my Sony player it defaulted to the German language track.

The image is rather good. 8 out of 10 material, solid.
