This is the one with Tom Hanks and Denzel Washington? I'll get it if the price isn't ridiculous.

I'll say it right now. This is such a great outstanding film and deserves so much more then to be pimped out to TT for an obscure limited release mantel. What a crock of BS.

Yet another movie that should have had a wide release. Sony really has no clue at all how to manage their catalog.

It's going to be $29.95 because it's a Twilight Time Exclusive.

Isn't it $35 with shipping?

Ok. $30, but it'll be worth ten times as much after it sells out.

I can't believe a movie containing an Oscar winning performance and starring two still-bankable Hollywood leading men is viewed as a niche title.

It's just not right no matter how you look at it. Creating an artificial demand by limiting it to 3000 and charging a high price. Sorry to take another TT thread in this direction but I just hate seeing great popular films going through these guys because more people can't enjoy these films in high definition.

Blame Sony. Obviously they don't place much value on their back catalog. Luckily there are at least some people working there that are at least getting some of their titles out, even if it's for 30 bucks a pop on-line. Kind of makes you wonder about the current state of the blu ray format when it's founder doesn't seem to fully embrace it.

Right. A movie that still hasn't sold out and probably never will (I know! If it had a $15 MSRP, Sony would sell MILLIONS). Someone might as well just duplicate the As Good As It Gets thread and rename it, because this is just the same old stuff....

Welcome to the business world of Hollywood movie marketing! If it's already played theatrically (even if it was released last month), it's an old movie, a niche title for hard-core fans obsessed with the past. Marketing efforts and money go to upcoming releases, and certain current releases that did well their opening weekends. Theatrical releases are essentially advance marketing for future home video releases. There's an occasional rare case that an older film might give a boost to (or get one from) some upcoming title (you think it was a coincidence that the 1969 TRUE GRIT came out around the time of the Coen Brothers' version?), but even then that doesn't guarantee a release (look at the announced but long-delayed 1974 version of THE GREAT GATSBY).

Niche movies take an effort by distributors to find their fans. Studios preoccupied with next summer's blockbusters and next fall's Oscar-contenders would rather not bother with the effort. If we're lucky, they'll find a place like Twilight Time, Olive, or Criterion willing to do it as well as trying to release a quality product fans will appreciate. Sometimes they'll just dump titles with a mass-market budget distributor like Mill Creek, with hit-or-miss quality. And those few classic titles the major studios even bother to release are pretty hard to find on the shelves at any video store. Those who want them must find them through on-line sources. Those who just browse video departments at Walmart, Target, Kmart, and Best Buy never even realize they've been released.

At least now the people who want to get PHILADELPHIA on Blu-ray will have a chance. Those who don't really want it, won't.

Only delayed because the new version has been delayed, of course.

Fun fact: CATALOG DRAMAS DO NOT SELL WELL.

I've heard this directly from the mouths of more than a few people in the home video industry.
