i for one am overjoyed by this casting news. ive been hoping Pratt would land a comic book movie role, and he definitely fits the tone of the MCU.

Great choice. I'm glad they didn't go with Zachary Levi or Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

I like Pratt a lot, but of everything I have seen him in he has kinda been the same character, the "goofy guy" so in that sense he has typecast himself, but I still enjoy watching him.

Has he ever done a dramatic role?

Ah, I forgot about Money Ball. In Zero Dark however he is the same "goofy guy" character he usually plays, he is just in a Navy Seal uniform. He is used to great effect in it I must add.

i dont think its fair to say he typecasts himself, those are just the roles he gets. thats what he is known for so those are the offers he gets, hes not a big star yet its not like he can pick and chose his roles.

He can say no. He can tell his agent to screen requests.

He is in the drivers seat of his own life. None of this "poor actors have to take what they can get nonsense". He probably likes the comedy roles, and as long as he does not pull a Jenny McCarthy then more power to him.

What exactly is pulling a Jenny McCarthy? Being goofy?

Don't really she was a actor really. Just remember her from that Singled Out show and then her own skit Show.

My point was, an you just enforced, he controls his career. I am happy for his success no doubt, and I hope he can convert himself into more dynamic roles.

not to the extent youre saying. youre saying he typecasts himself, can say no, and can screen request. when in fact he is typecast BECAUSE of the roles hes had (that IS the definition of typecasting after all), he cant say no when hes not getting offers, and as for his agent "screening requests", see the previous statement. hes not the type of actor who is offered roles, he is an actor who goes and auditions and tests etc to get the roles he does. GotG is probably going to be the movie that gets him to that level. and i know i probably sound like the worlds biggest chris pratt fanboy but it just bugs me when people assume that every actor is just a millionaire who gets jobs thrown at them when they walk down the street.

I do not assume that at all, I have worked with a lot of actors, some SAG ones and a lot of starving artists, so I know the reality of the situation.

As actors go, Pratt has it great, he has a steady paycheck that probably pays great.

When Will Smith was converting from TV to Film he was offered plenty of comedy roles, on the advice of his TV co-star he turned them all down for a dramatic role that was the polar opposite of his TV persona. It was hugely successful for him because it showed the film world he had range.
