Blind buying not expecting the best movie but hopefully good 3D. I really like the first one what it lacked in script it made up for in some of the best atmosphere in a horror movie.

And actually Ziv, it did even worse in France than it did here. Opened #6 and was out of theatres in three weeks. So not sure why they get all the goodies.
Because it's a French production like the first film?

Thanks UFAlien. That's too bad about the box office. These types of movies are tougher to draw in a giant audience like a summer block buster can, so they shouldn't be disappointed based on that anyway, though some horror movies can draw in big takes with good word of mouth as in Sixth Sense, Exorcist, etc. Most times, they do better on video or rentals.

Nope. Shot in Canada by a British director with Canadian producers.

No, Samuel Hadida put his money into it like he did the first film. His company owns the film rights. It's all the same producers as the first film.

I'm excited to give this film a second chance. You can read my disappointed review a few pages back but enough time has lapsed now to where I'm building up some excitement (I laugh at my own brain.........). I think the at home experience will be better, more comfortable - I've also recently went to a full on IMAX omega ultimate screen and watched a 3d flick, I'm convinced the theater I saw this in played a role in my original feelings, it's worth driving the extra 10 miles to see a proper screening, comfy seats, etc.. I might as well had been sitting in a metal folding chair in front of a projector lol.

I will be following up my original review with a secondary - I WANT to like this flick, I love Silent Hill...........

Very interested about your 2nd chance opinion. Had similar feelings after seeing the 3D version theatrically and I'm going to adopt a wait and see approach before I decide if I'm going to make a purchase. Interested in observing how more people are going to react to the 3D exhibition that didn't catch the film in theaters.

The 3D in SH2 was way better than I was guessing it would be. That, combined with the underworld scenery and monsters which capture the feel of the games (but not so much the horror in that it wasn't scary enough IMO), makes it a worthwhile 3D purchase. I enjoyed the story even with all of the explanations, but agree, there is room for improvement.

The Best Buy ad has it coming out the 12th. It also says exclusive. So, I am guessing they have the exclusivity for only two weeks?

Missed out on this one. I did enjoy the first film, and hearing good things about the 3D.. Well, that's enough for me. Preorder in.

Ah yeah, forgot Hadida's company is based in France... not exactly what I'd call a "French Production", but that could explain the special Blu-ray treatment.

Cool.

I'll take a look next week, Tuesday. Thanks.

EDIT: The link below says Feb 12th also for 2D and 3D blu. Bestbuy.com though, says Feb 26 at 29.99. Amazon also, but at 22.99. But this may confirm it:

"Best Buy exclusive early release of Blu-ray 3D Combo Pack (available on 2/12/13) - $27.99"
"Only available on Blu-ray 3D are the 3D versions of the special featurette “A Look Inside Silent Hill: Revelation” and theatrical trailer."-

Sweet. I hope it is in fact the 12th. I'll be swinging by BB to find out.

Z0MBI3,

Yeah, 27.99 is a bit more to pay, but I wouldn't mind having this 2 weeks earlier for the extra five bucks compared to Amazon's 22.99.

Yea I'd pay the difference... Mind you I'm going out on a limb... *Fingers Crossed for great 3D*

And Dawn is my favorite film, of all time. I named my son Romero. I'm serious about some Dawn.

Cool.
Also a favorite of mine. Great late 70's setting, the old fashioned mall in Monroeville, PA, the countless zombies, Savini's gore, Romero's directing style, the 4 lead characters cleaning up the mess, music by Goblin, etc. A classic.

Yes, the 3D in Silent Hill 2 3D was great.

Off topic, but How would you feel if they continued their original plan to convert Dawn of the Dead into 3D? It'd have to be strong 3D, but I'd be thrilled to see it happen, as the 2D version will always remain intact.

Silent Hill 2 has a stalking villain that is after Heather that adds some mystery to the film.
