I have lots of friends who are both gay and straight and love musicals.

Chess would be GREAT to get if it is the London version.

Some great HD clips of some great musicals in there. Some are properly mastered/restored and will make AMAZING demo material.

The shots from GIGI in that set are stunningly detailed and 3-D. Wow.
David - I'm seriously in love with this set. The Astaire/Powell "Begin the Beguine" number is amazing. You can see the texture in the floor and see it give as they are dancing on it. Absolutely breathtaking.

Kinda like Oliver!, too. West Side Story. Although I have to say, there's many musicals that just drive me bananas... everything turns into a song - going to the store, tying a shoe, dropping the kids off at the pool... Dreamgirls was pretty good but the songs were not memorable at all and the in-between song dialogue/mini-songs were just terribly bad.

One day years ago, I was at work, whistling a tune constantly and everyone kept looking at me funny. I couldn't figure out what everyone's damn problem was until I realized I had been whistling 'I Feel Pretty' from West Side Story. Yeah... that was nice (cough).

"Cabaret"
-- What was once a bizarre musical is now an Oscar-drenched dramatic movie with songs thrown in. Winner of 8 Oscars, the film Cabaret was given a new script with new characters and new songs.--

Pink Floyd The Wall with optional Wizard of OZ video.

Aside from The Wall, Sweeney Todd, and Across The Universe, all musicals suck.

Sadly Cabaret has some problems.

Aside from lackluster 1970s film stock, the original multi-channel stems have been lost and the stereo audio that remains is damaged.

However, the musical-numbers still have a FANTASTIC sounding stereo master... so it's always been my hope that a future release of this film would re-incorporate the musical numbers with full fidelity like Rocky Horror did on DVD... and viewers would have the option to hear the original soundtrack or the newly reconstructed one.

Still no love for the new pre-order listing for the Broadway revival of Company? My college theatre department did a production years ago and my wife is a pretty hardcore Sondheim fan; this could actually be a blind buy for me, but I'd like further word on specs.

I hope this becomes a trend: BD releases of live theatrical productions, I mean. There's no real substitute for truly being there amidst the roar of the greasepaint & the smell of the crowd, but high-definition presentation could prove pretty satisfying.

Alas, I fear we will never see the musical version of "Jack the Giant Killer" on BD.

I can't believe no one has mentioned Sweet Charity! It took forever for it to be released on DVD years ago. Hopefully it doesn't take as long for the BD version to come out.

Heh, made me look it up. We're probably better off:

Producer Edward Small re-released this film as a musical. Songs were dubbed onto the soundtrack. Some of the footage was doctored to make it look like some of the original cast were singing rather than speaking their dialog.
Now, if he'd done that with It! The Terror from Beyond Space.....

There was no movie version or commercially-released video. How could it be put on Blu-Ray?
