What you need to understand is that film distribution rights are locked in by country. So Amazon is paying $$$$ for US rights to the film but that means they are locked in to US distribution. Netflix might exist in the US, UK and Canada (and I think in a few other places) but each one is different with a different film selection depending on what studio they negotiated with and what films they got the distribution rights ( what I mean is that , for example Dredd in the US is Lionsgate, in Canada it is Alliance films and in the UK it is Entertainment in Video, so if Netflix wants it on all three of its places it needs to buy the rights from all three of those studios for each one of them) That is why things will always be different (be it Amazon or Netflix) across borders. |

Yep I had a co-worker ask me why do I buy movies and I told him for the price to own a streaming movie which is about the same as the physical media I rather get the Blu-ray because I get extras and stuff like that.

I doesn't have to be one thing or the other. Streaming will replace the rental market. I hope House of Cards, that Netflix Kevin Spacey series, is a hit, because I think streaming could be an alternative for episodic TV. A lot of people get their Walking Dead that way, don't they?
Why not rent the movie via streaming and, at the end, have the chance to buy the movie you just watched? No reason the two can't be combined into a single business model. |

If you mean frightening in that completely unimportant 'what do I really care' sort of way then yes, the thought of some guy I don't even know watching Running Scared in 720p is downright terrifying.

I won't buy a movie just for the extras - if I don't like the movie, I won't buy it. But I really like the extras as I like to know the behind the scenes stuff - how effects were done, why they decided to do A instead of B, etc. For example, TNG remastered Season 1 is great as you get to see makeup tests for the characters to see what other options they were looking at. I find that stuff intersting and the audio commentaries are something I miss on Netflix. From a technical standpoint, there is no reason that you can't have have it on streaming as most have multiple audio tracks. it is just a financial thing and I think if streaming really does start to take over, that is something they will need to start including.
