The quality of blu ray still seems better than streaming to me. Even if the differences are subtle. I feel better knowing I'm seeing the movie in its very best possible format because I'm obsessive. That being said, I wouldn't be surprised if streaming took over completely someday. I live in a college town and our walmart just removed 90% of their bluray display (which was a decent size) and replaced them with DVDs. I asked why and they said they just weren't selling. There is still an isle full of blu ray players, however. After working in an electronics store myself, you'd be surprised how many people still have no idea bluray even exists...7 years later.

Streaming cannot replace it completely. Not enough reliable connections.

A person who really loves movies watches movies on any medium, be it blu ray, DVD, laserdisc, streaming etc. the love of movies has nothing to do with what medium they use to watch.

Right. Which is why I saw The Master and Skyfall on 70mm film. However, if there is movie which I want to see, I will watch it in a format that is priced right. I see no reason to go out and buy Running Scared on blu ray when the iTunes hd version will suffice.

If you streamed a movie on my 125" screen from 12.5' away and then watched the Blu-Ray you would see that the difference are typically far from subtle..

I don't even bother anymore in the media room because streaming usually looks so bad...

A movie screen at 125" requires blu ray, however 35mm will look even better. Streaming really isn't sufficient for that size however a 1080 download will look decent.

Decent is not pristine though is it? So streaming is not suitable for home cinema room. Thanks for confirming what I have been saying all along.

Why do you keep mentioning 35mm or 70mm? Most movie fans go to cinema but want best possible home presentation. That is bluray. Soon it will be 4k bluray. My money is saved and waiting for 4k discs.

For anything up to 60" it sure is.

The best possible presentation is 70mm nothing comes close. 35mm is still vastly superior to blu ray or 2k which is what is seen in cinema. Most moviegoers are not even aware that some 2k films are not even 1080p in the cinema, they are actually less.

You said people who love movies collect blu rays, well I love movies and saw three 70mm presentations this year, however I also saw a 720p iTunes movie yesterday and I about to download another very soon.

Yes but who has 35mm at home? You can't keep a movie reel (ah nostalgia) and take it home.

You said only blu ray collectors love movies and you also said you want the best quality so you should be seeking out a theatrical release in 70 or 35 if that is the case.

streaming looks like crap on 42 inch screens. I have BIG quality concerns on my 50 and 55 inch tvs (not even playable on my 120 incher)
