United Kingdom 90th Anniversary Warner SteelBooks

It is Warner Bros. 90th Anniversary this year, and they are planning a whole bunch of SteelBooks for their catalogue titles, ready in Q3 & Q4

I can't reveal a whole lot as it's still in the planning stages (also I'm not really allowed!*), but I will say that there are some seriously exciting ideas.

As soon as I know more, you guys will be the first to know.

*I'm a DVD buyer, so often have strict instructions on what I can and can't say. I know you guys like to have a source in writing, but I honestly can't reveal that. You're just going to have to take my word for it!

are they going to be more 'white' steelbooks from Warner like the ones released earlier this year (Heat, Blade Runner, 300, etc.) ?

Hope not, wasn't a fan of those...

Loved the classic wave from Jan though. My guess is there will be more of them... Rebel Without a Cause and Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? were both slated to be released alongside those originally so my guess is those will be out.

Would also love Cabaret, Network, All the President's Men, Dog Day Afternoon, and some other classics like that yet to see a UK release come out. (And preferably not films like Goodfellas, Heat, Departed etc which have already come out in North America)

Depends. I think a lot of people would like a new transfer and lossless sound for Goodfellas for starters. I know I would.

I really hope they won't be all white steels like the previous wave, hated that design.

Entirely possible. DC steels are on the agenda.

I'll take all 4 Batman movies as long as they get individual releases with original poster art. If it's a steelbook with all 4, then I'll pass.

Same with Superman.

They should release a steelbook for Kelly's Heroes and Where Eagles Dare and Battle of the Bulge. Very limited ones. Like 1000 for each because those movies are quite old and not as popular as other classics (unfortunately).

Thanks for the heas up

Hopefully we'll see more classics from their vaults (1930-60's) like the recent UK wave with the original poster art

Very much yes to Dog Day Afternoon! And yes to Goodfellas - I don't think it being out elsewhere should matter to WB UK. (Heat was part of the last wave anyhow).

Am intrigued as to whether or not The Departed would be one as it's an old EiV title that Warners picked up through their purchase of New Line and, so far, EiV still seem to have some control on those titles (e.g. LOTR, Blade) and they do not do steelbooks. But if Warners do include some New Line titles in this then, please - Lord of the Rings individual steebooks.

Oh hell yes! Would love this.

I'd also double-dip on both Gremlins films if they got steels (and not that horrible double-pack from France(?)). Heck, it's completely unlikely, but I would love this on a steelbook:

[Show spoiler]

In a more likely request I take it Wizard of Oz will be included, being as its 3D re-release is one of the crown jewels of Warner's 90th anniversary celebrations? Would also love to see White Heat get a steelbook release.

Something to keep in mind:

Unforgiven: 20th Anniversary Edition

(without the text "20th Anniversary Edition")

A SteelBook hasn't been mentioned for Oz, which is a shame. Hopefully The Great and the Powerful will get one, but that's just my own personal hope, not a fact!

Why does everyone keep on wishing for re-releases ?? Aren't you tired of double dipping??? Or triple dipping if you them on DVD.

I've got Goodfellas Best Buy SB, more than happy with the PQ/AQ, Batman films don't need to double dip you can buy the boxt set for £10 why pay £10+ each ?

Does anyone need to upgrade the Departed from amaray to SB ? It'll be the same transfer

There is a massive WB catalogue yet to be released in HD.

I'd like to finally be able to buy Pacific Heights and Young Guns 2, for a start.

I would like a steelbook of March of the Penguins too, but nobody else would buy it.
